Default BMC Air Filters - 997.2

Anyone using these?

Are they better than stock filters? How?

Are they worse? Why?

Noticed that Sharkwerks sells them as part of a broader "Power kit" for the 997.2. Seems like Sharkwerks wouldn't sell them if they were bogus...

I see the advantage of them being reusable....

(I understand the perils of over-oiling them. I've read some past posts that there's a good way to prevent that however. So - not too concerned about that.)

Yes they allow more air through the filter than paper, oh and they also filter less dirt being sucked into the intake. Your call but they are not good enough for my Jeep do I will never use them on my Porsche.

I went with an AFE “dry” filter because I had to replace a MAF on a previous car because of an over oiled K&N. The memory lingers.

The AFE looks to be the filter used with the Fabspeed intake, so I think it will be good. https://www.fabspeed.com/porsche-997...intake-system/

Regardless, BMC makes good filters from everything I’ve seen. But, if we were smart we would probably pick up OEM Mahles for $60 for the pair.

I definitely would keep the stock air box.

Thanks for the feedback.

I put in a BMC and changed to the Flat 6 cold air intake mod on my 997.1 C4S. No issues so far and perhaps just a bit more juice on the low-end. Intake sound above 5000 rpm was worth the price of admission for the CAI.

The BMC filters have larger pores than a traditional filter and the oil captures dirt particulates in the incoming flow. This allows for a slight increase in flow and an ever so slight increase in intake sound. They would need to be recharged (cleaned and reoiled) every year or so. As long as you do not over oil them, the oil should not transfer to any sensors in the intake tract. We're happy to get you a set at the best possible pricing.

David - which aFE air filter do you have?
The only one that I seem to be able to reference shows that it is an oiled filter...

AFe dry filter: reading their description of their own product, I came to the conclusion that it was written by an idiot. They start off describing their dry filter by stating it is oiled. Rest assured it is a misprint. Mine arrived dry. It is not oiled.

I linked it in the post above. As David mentioned, a line of the description is incorrect. It is dry and has 3 layers of progressively smaller media.. Also, their application search doesn’t list the dry filter for the 997.2 for some reason. They’re definitely missing out on some business because their website is f’d

Yeah, that is the one. I have had K&N oiled filters in the past, have one on my Hyundai Sonata. The AFe is dry, their marketing department must be in China?
I know what an oiled filter looks and feels like. AFe is not oiled.

AFe offers both dry (Pro Dry S - grey in color) and oiled (Pro 5R - blue in color) filters.

So is the aFE filter a disposable? I don't understand how you would clean / reuse it if it's not oiled.

There are cleaning kits for the dry filters: https://afepower.com/air-filter-cleaning-kit
