Painting the lower body panels and spoiler lip on my GTS. Advice wanted.
I'm thinking of painting the black lower body panels on the sides and rear, and bottom spoiler lip on my GTS to match the Platinum silver body color. I never understood why they even made them black.
Any tips on this or an idea of what you paid? Any info or pics are welcome
I agree. Makes zero sense why they come from the factory black. Luckily, my car came with the front, side and rear pieces all painted white. There were 3 separate options charges on my sticker for this.
About to put speedster lip on mine and have the front bumper cover resprayed along with it. A friend is doing it so hopefully he will be cutting me a good deal.
I had a scratch on 2017 F80 ZCP I had to fix before turning it in a couple of months ago. He charged me $400ish to respray the entire back bumper Yas Marina Blue and install a new tail light that I cracked. Prep time may get you if the pieces are rough.
I had some recent work done on my ‘08 Turbo. I originally was going to get just the front bumper re-sprayed, but I decided to do the whole front of the car. I also replaced my lower side skirts with the GT2 style that was a little more flared. I had Jim East Auto Body and Paint In Orange, CA perform the work on a recommendation from Sleepers’ Speedshop in Costa Mesa. I was completely satisfied with the work and price when I picked up my vehicle.
Cost was very reasonable considering the work, prep, and final outcome. A few pics............
Those pieces are black and unpainted because they're the most likely ones to scrape the ground and the scuffs that end up on them are much less noticeable than if painted when the black starts showing through the paint. They can also be cleaned back up with a deburring tool to have a nice smooth shape again by scraping off the burrs.
I actually like the black bottom edge and am putti g carbon wrapped Moshammer side skirts on my car and maybe some of Gary's rear bumper side skirts to continue the theme if I can make them work with my RUF rear bumper. Then I have to figure out what to do on the front RUF bumper to make the bottom line continuous - possibly wrapping the lower line section as I don't want anything any lower than it currently is.
The only scrape is the front spoiler, and I can deal with that. If you paint the spoiler in front do you need to add an additive to the paint to make it flexible?
The sole cosmetic maintenance advantage of having a black GTS:
The unpainted parts blend in and do not show a scrape as much as other color painted pieces (really only the front spoiler).
I just got a qoute from a shop here after texting them pictures and you won't believe it but it was $500. BUT I failed to remember there are two more pieces under the sides of the rear fenders. Not sure how much he will increase the estimate. I'll post back here with the final cost.
They're wear and tear items for sure. Priced accordingly. The middles a little expensive. I want to do the same as doug and have all three sections painted white. It will definitely get rashed from road debris. I will most likely paint all three sections and the front bumper grills white. I'm going in a 964 rs america direction. I already know PPF is a must if going painted. But yeah, the black is no good it fades and looks like crap even if it didn't get road rashed. Low wide fast car problems.
Would you guys remove the parts to paint? I haven't looked to see if it's a pain in the ***. This is a GTS there's the front, rear center, sides, and rear side pieces. Input?
