Default Engine Oil / Schaeffer Oil Synthetic Advanced European Formula 5W-30 (MID SAPS)

I was doing some research and this engine oil: Schaeffer Oil Synthetic Advanced European Formula 5W-30 (MID SAPS)
has Molly in it. "Micron Moly® and Penetro® – two proven friction modifiers, our European oils provide strong protection against metal-to-metal contact" seems like that might help prevent future IMS issues (maybe?)

Any opinions on using this engine oil in the 997.1?

Ok, I don't know about additives, but a 30-grade oil is going to be too thin for this engine when it is hot.
So not a good idea, I'd say. If you want to try it, keep a close eye on the oil pressure gauge.

To my understanding of the IMS failure from the ones who have solved the issue, no oil is going to fix the stock bearing. Period. Just follow the service life or fit the IMS solution and quite worrying about it. Secondly, I haven't heard anyone running that oil, so you'd need to run it and see how the oil analysis looks to see if it contains enough friction modifiers for the M97 engine. Perhaps Baz would know since he is the European engine expert....

This

Don't run a 30 weight hot viscosity oil in your 997. Plenty of research and data on a few different oils so you can pick one that we already know works well. In a 997.1, that should be Driven DT40 or Motul 8100xcess, both 5W/40 weight with high ZDDP content and Moly. Driven has higher ZDDP than the Motul.

What about this one:Liqui Moly 2332 Leichtlauf High Tech 5W-40 Engine Oil?

It specs to the Porche A40 Engine also.

Not enough Zinc or Phosphorous, which are really hard to find in any A40 approved oil as too much of it can damage the catalytic converters and the manufacturers have to do extended warranties on emissions components. I'd rather protect my engine and sacrifice my cats since I'd likely replace OEM cats with 200 cell hi-flow versions anyway.

Read this thread and you'll get a lot of info on different oils people have run and the results in their 997 engines. - https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...-analysis.html

I have been using that for several years in a 997.2S along with Ceratec. I no longer subscribe to high ZDDP numbers.

Ok I am convinced that the Motul 8100xcess 5W40 with high ZDDP is the best oil for the 997.1 (based on both Price/Performance data as best I can tell)

Next and final question. Do you have a preference for Oil Filters?

That's a good choice if you're concerned about A40 approval. Personally, I've had better results with Driven DT40 and use that. With the Motul don't run it beyond 4,500 or 5,000 miles. That's when main bearing wear numbers seem to really start climbing (Iron & Copper).

Best filter is to get after you get the LN Engineering Spin on filter adapter so you can use a metal canister filter, is the K&N HP-1007 or a Napa Gold that crosses to the same compatibility number. I personally use K&N. Also get LN's magnetic oil drain plug.

OEM or Mahle or Mann filters.

Driven DT40 here. Why, because Jake said so.
