How do you re-attach a shift boot to the shift **** (6MT)?
Had to remove my shift **** a few times and on the last time as I was pulling up, my hand slipped and yanked the boot off the ****.
Looks like there are four parts to the assembly:
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Looks like there are four parts to the assembly:
- The ****
- A small black plastic ring (like a wedding band size/shape) that goes on the bottom of the ****
- A locking ring that fits over the black plastic ring and is used to lock the **** on the shift lever
- The boot
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Mine came apart last season when I was messing with it as well. I found it very easy to re-assemble by doing the following;
Pull the boot over the shift **** until its completely inverted. Replace the locking elements and pull the boot down snugly. Should look exactly as it did before.
As far as the retaining clip- I believe there is a recess in the **** and plastic ring. Once you have the **** on the shifter just spin the plastic ring 90 degrees to lock.

Thanks everyone for the replies.
So I pull the boot down over the **** inverted, then I tuck the boot INSIDE the inner plastic ring (so boot is going between the **** and the ring, and then place the plastic locking ring OVER that?

That is correct. I pulled the boot completely over the **** so that all I could see what the backside of the leather, making sure the lip was completely flush with the ****. From there I fit the retaining plastic ring ( my clip did not come out) over the boot & **** and reinstalled the **** to the shifter. I gave it a pretty good tug on the boot all around the **** and it came out looking factory.

I got it back on. One tip: There are 3 grooves in the outer locking ring. These are to be aligned with the seams in the boot. The **** needs to be rotated 90 degrees away from forward (in relation to the boot) when installing it because you will be rotating the boot 90 degrees when you rotate the lock ring after installing it on the shift lever.
Thanks again for the help.

Fold the leather (inverted) over the outer plastic ring then press the inner ring into the outer ring thus capturing the leather.
