Default 997.2 console

Good morning. I really don’t like the chipped and scratched soft paint on my new to me 997.2 and I’m going to cover it in something. I also don’t care for the price of having one covered in leather, either. That said, with a Cocoa full leather interior including the console lid, what would look good? I’ve looked at paint, carbon fiber, Alcantara and leather with either having it done locally or a diy project. I bought a used console just for this purpose and it looks straightforward, but compound curves make me nervous.
Thanks, Perd

If it was my car, and based on the photo above, I would be more inclined to cover it in the cocoa leather. If the seat center sections were matching leather rather than the contrasting lighter color, I might look to introduce another
finish / material on the console to break it all up. The contrasting color with the seats however already accomplishes that.

Anyway - obviously just one opinion.

Good luck with the project. Would be interested to see whatever the end result is that you implement.

You can buy a leather kit from Ebay for $220 and cover your console yourself https://www.ebay.com/itm/GREY-STITCH...MAAOSwYTBeTqMM
I don't know the quality, but you can try on your spare console first to see if it works for you.

They have all sorts of leather and stitching colors to choose from.

cocoa or tan leather to match the rest of the car is what I would do to cover it if it were my car.

if it were to be painted, the only 'oem' option would be to do it guards red, to match the outside of the car... but it would frankly not match at all with your interior. gloss black paint would work (and be the cheapest option, even when professionally done), but wouldnt be 'oem' as it wouldnt match with the cars exterior paint color.

Those leather coverings are only compatible with year 2004 and earlier cars according to the compatibility charts.

Thanks all, I did not know about this option and I’ve sent them a message.

The eBay ad states it’s for 2004-2012 and I sent them my car info.

I’ve been corresponding with the eBay seller of leather console covers and they only make black in the Napa leather. They can come pretty close to a color match in their regular leather, but it will be a different texture and I don’t know what difference it will make. Their reviews on different forums are less than positive, some are downright horror stories. I’ve also contacted Classic9 requesting a quote and timeline, but they have not responded yet. The request for quote was for covering the console only since the car has a leather storage lid currently.
Thanks again, Perdido

I hate to say it, but that natural leather color in the center of the seats doesn't work well for me. I love cocoa - it's actually my favorite Porsche interior color when maintained well so that it stays rich and dark looking If it were my car, I'd call Classic 9 Leatherworks in MI and ask them about redoing the 4 seat centers in cocoa as well as the center console. Alternatively, just have them do the seats and once the car is all one color inside, then look at doing the console in carbon fiber and add some other pieces of that throughout the cabin to tie it all together.

The deviated seating is one of the things that drew me to the car...I had to wade thru a sea of black, grey, and tan before I found it. Same with the Guards Red exterior...I had to wade thru a sea of black, grey and silver cars. As they say, ‘there’s a butt for every seat’!

Could be that the seat insert color just does not photograph accurately from a color perspective. I've found that often to be an issue with digital photography - color accuracy is often a problem.
The yellow tones seem to be accentuated in the photos which some may find dissonant to the cocoa and the undertones within cocoa.

In any event, what counts is that you like it as your opinion is the one that matters most.

The Cocoa is a very dark brown and the inserts are a light tan, but there’s no number associated with the seats, just the description on the window sheet. The option is Special Leather Cocoa along with Seat Inlays Deviating Leather. The first picture I posted is taken inside the showroom and the second is taken outside, so there may or may not be a difference in the color y’all see. While talking with the salesman about this car vs new he pulled out the leather seat samples that were the same as the car I bought and the name was Luxor Beige/Cocoa Napa Leather.

The product title clearly says 04-12 and the picture shows a 997 console. They sell the leather kit for 996 too https://www.ebay.com/itm/BLACK-STITC...item36582628ee

Update: The eBay seller is sending me leather samples to compare with the Porsche Cocoa Napa leather and I’ll see if it’s compatible. If it looks good I’ll order a console cover and give it a try. This attached picture is my pickup, so you can see why I liked the 997 interior.
