Default What Starter to Buy

Planning to buy and replace starter next weekend.Any recommendations on what aftermarket starter to buy? New or refurbished? I think new would be best since it is so painful to replace - don't want to go back there again for a while.

I just bought this one:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000EPSYG8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000EPSYG8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Haven't installed it yet but seemed pretty hard to beat.

You don't want aftermarket. You want a true Bosch unit.

FCP Euro shows it as the correct part. I don't think I trust Amazon's fitment guide.

https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/por...r0808n#fitment

Also, if you have a Carrera GT and are looking for a starter, it also uses the same part!

I got a new Bosch fro ECS. Saved a fair amount of money over the Porsche version.

Get a new Bosch unit.

I made the mistake of picking up a rebuilt Denso thinking "hey, its a Denso ... must be good right?!" Wrong. 1 year later I was replacing with a new Bosch. NOT worth it...

Just FYI to all having this issue.

I took my car to a local independent Porsche shop and it took him 5 minutes to diagnose the issue as a bad cable. He measured voltage at battery and alternator and notice 1 volt difference - with the engine running. He obviously had done this many times and knew how to measure the alternator voltage without making a mess of his hands.
He changed the cable and back to normal - no starter needed. Saved me that cost. He did charge $500 for his labor and $95 for the cable. Which I think is fair. And while in there he replaced a vacuum line that had some brittle cracks - charged only for the part.

Nice guy. I can recommend if you live near Palm Beach County FL.

Sorry, just adding to the thread for part number. looks like you had it worked on already.

copied from this thread: https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...w-starter.html
You can find the direct starter replacement online for around $120. Porsche part dealer price is 5x's that price!
google or ebay search for part below.

Bosch SR-0808 N
Fitment Type: Direct Replacement Manufacturer Part Number: 0001123052
Region of Manufacture: Hungary Interchange Part Number: 99660410300, 996 604 103 00, 99660410301, 01
Other Part Number: SR0808N, SR0808 N, SR 0808 N, SR0808X, SR0808

btw... for Bosch parts... if part# ends with "N" = new. X = remanufactured to bosch specs.

Go for Bosch. No substitute.

Read this for entertainment: http://murenae.com/FTP_Files/997.1-Starter.pdf

Good luck.
