$400 Oil Change !?!? Circle Porsche Long Beach
I live close to the Porsche Dealership in Long Beach,CA and I've heard a few good things from guys here on the forum. I walked and they wanted $400 for an oil change, I don't even understand the math on this hourly rate is $220 how long could it possibly take ?

“That’s a hundred thousand dollar car, see” (In German accent). Someone has to pay for that kick *** waiting room and gourmet coffee bar! It’s part of the experience.
As others have said - Indy is the way to go. I’ve done a clutch and saved 2k in labor.

No joke, Long Beach wanted me to pay $17,000 for a new center wiring harness and said my car would be down for 3-4 months. Hergesheimer Motorsports (Porsche specialist) in Lake Forest did the repair for $150 and discovered the problem was in fact not a wiring harness issue at all, but a defective seat belt buckle and melted brake pad sensor from track use. Long Beach loves to tout the fact they are a Porsche Premier (top 25 in the US) dealer but their service waits and competence are nothing to brag about.

Just had my oil changed for $134. Bought oil and filter and brought it to Pep Boys. Caught some flak from some here who said I'm a fool for not having a trained professional do the job. I've done it myself and a lot of guys here do it themselves. Very easy job as long as you have the right tools. $400 sounds outrageous. I paid Pep Boys $29 for their labor which amounted to 45 minutes..

Less than 200 here in central FL at Porsche Melbourne with discount if you're a PCA member.
Problem with taking in to places like Pep Boys is that they don't have the best techs or practices. I quit using them decades ago after they damaged the rims on my wife's van and said basically f**k yourself.

Ahhhh the joys of going to the stealerships .... I went into mine just to get a grommet for my fuel tank tether I paid surprisingly only 94 cents for it ...I told the guy I am going to frame the invoice !! Cheapest invoice by a country mile I ever got from them.

$400 for a dealer is not bad but I do it myself. I spend maybe $120 on good oil and filter, another $40 on blackstone and I let it drain over night. It does take a long time to drain fully and it’s a lot of oil to fill up, warm up the engine for verifying the level (about 10 minutes itself). 2 hours is not unreasonable. I wouldn’t be able to get it done in 2 hours. Definitely takes longer than a 2L econobox that only needs 4L oil and comes with a dipstick.

Napleton Porsche wanted 700 to do an oil change on my Cayenne diesel ... $700!
I have it done for $98 with the bulk synthetic, filter and car wash at the local place!
They also wanted 2500 to install PSE on the 997.2. ... I had it done at an Indy for $800
They also want 900 to change the serp belt and the Indy quoted me $136, including the belt!
Napleton is all brand new and the previous poster had it right ... someone has to pay for the incredibly nice new dealership.

I buy dealer-only parts from Circle Porsche because they are local and can pick them up the same day. The trick is to buy them online (wholesale prices like Sunset's) then will call them at the parts counter. Counter walk-ins are charged full retail. I've never considered going there for service and with $400 oil changes I never will.
Seriously, consider changing your own oil, it is incredibly simple and you'll know it was done right. On top of that, you'll see first-hand what an absolute rip-off the dealerships are ($400 for this?!) and you will never consider going to them for service again. That's a good thing.

Following up, here's a 997.2 Mahle filter kit from Amazon for $17, buy two and there's free shipping. You can get a bunch of the replacement plug crush washers for a few more bucks.
Between Autozone, O'Reilly's, and Walmart you can always find Mobil One (if that's acceptable to you, it's what the dealer will use) on sale for under $30 for a 5 quart jug.
Parts (total of $87):
So this dealership is charging $400 for $87 in parts and around 40 minutes worth of work.
