Default when does tip decide to downshift to 1?

I haven't been able to figure this out. Sometimes the tip will downshift to 1 when I'm stopping/stopped in manual sport mode. Most of the time it will downshift and remain in 2. There must be something to it, I've read in other threads that leaving the gear in 3 will cause Tip to do this, but that doesn't seem to be reproducible for me.

not an expert, but I believe in AUTO mode it goes into 2nd for gas saving when stopped. I am guessing that in sport mode or manual it's disregarding this, as it's looking for you to give the inputs.

On the PDK it starts in 1 at a stop in AUTO, but can quickly upshift into 5th in the first few seconds of driving.

Thanks, that does make sense. However, what I am experiencing is that while in manual mode (sport because I'm almost always in sport), it will SOMETIMES downshift to 1st but not always. Usually, it will downshift to 2nd and start from there.

I read somewhere that tiptronic "learns" how you drive and tries to anticipate what to do, so maybe the inconsistent behavior is related to that?

I don't think my Tip goes to 1st unless I put it there manually.

Ok, I did a little more controlled experimenting on the way home from work today.

When the car is in manual mode + sport and I shift more aggressively (let it rev up to 4k or so), then the Tip will continuously downshift to 1st when stopped after that. Even if I drive it gingerly afterwards, some sort of internal program has flipped and decided that I want to start in 1st from then on. Will have to review the manual and see if there is any mention of this.

I have noticed mine will go to first in Sport mode (Sport Chrono Plus) with Auto mode and a bit of a double tap on the accelerator when starting from a stop.

The only other time Ive had it drop to 1st in auto is when its stone cold the first 2-3 min of driving. If I'm in manual mode it never drops to 1st from my experience.

Very interesting. Now that I think about it there are some mornings that I do recall the car in 1st when I'm crawling down the hill at 6:30am...definitely not in manual mode at that point, I usually wait until the oil temp starts to warm up then switch it to manual mode and press sport

I would love to find some documentation on these different modes and really understand it. I wish there was a driving mode in auto that didn't end up in 5th gear at 35mph...

edit: C2S with sport chrono here as well

The only Tip I have is in my 957 Cayenne Turbo S. In auto mode and not in Sport, it will always downshift to 2nd at a stop and restart from there. In Sport mode, it will always downshift to first and start from there. I can't definitely say what it does in manual mode as I usually leave it in Auto mode and use the thumb buttons to command an immediate downshift or 2 for passing.

There is no problem that is perfectly normal.
Tip s starts first when the vehicle is cold or the temperature is low (even in D mode). After a 2/3 minute drive after the engine heat, the TIP S rises "back to normal" and starts driving in second gear.

can confirm. On cold mornings mine starts in first then a short while later it starts in second.

In sport mode, the first time I coast to a stop after pressing the button it starts in second. Afterwards, it starts in first.
