Yes. Watch the guys at the dealership flock when a nice 997 rolls in. I get endless compliments from the service writers, valets, etc.....sales guys not so much. Everyone else yes.
Last analog steering and throttle. Go drive a 991......

These threads are a bit silly. I prefer my 997.2 but its holier than thou to say it's the last one. Perhaps when they no longer have an internal combustion engine or when they don't have a rear weight bias. In my mind those are the things that make a "real" 911.

What's the throttle difference between a 997 & 991? I understand the steering went from hydraulic to electric assist, but wasn't the 997 an electronic throttle already? I thought only early 996 cars had a cable throttle - all digital since then.

I think you guys missed his point. Not sure about the 9a1 engine but the car was designed before the VW/Audi merger. Does it make it more a Porsche than the newer ones? Kinda like arguing whether a 76 Rolls is better than a 2010 Rolls or a Countach better then a huracan.

Having owned several 991s (and passing on the 992), I can look back and say that the 997 generation is the last to feel like a pure driver's 911. There are a few exceptions -- my 991.2 GT3 Touring is an unbelievable driver's car. I would not say the 991 or 992 is not a "real 911", but the 997 generation is the pinnacle to me.

Listen to the man above, not that one, the gentleman above! Analog Porsche is a totally different (not better) animal and I happen to really love all the feedback. Drove a 991S and it was like a super sporty Lexus. It’s obviously up to the driver but I cannot wait to get my hands on a 9934S or a GT3 or Turbo 997. 991 was devoid of feeling but hey some people don’t mind condoms either...... choice is up to you. I found the attention my “old” 997 in need of touch up and PDR garnered at the dealership to be disproportionately related to the money I spent, but the sub-991 crowd really dig these cars. The motoring public has no idea what a 993/997/991 etc even is......just drive yours and smile.

Some say the "last true 911" was one with an aircooled engine, others use other qualifiers. I like where the 997 sits because it is fast enough when compared to modern cars yet analog enough to really get a lot of drivers feedback. now some may favor one of these areas over the other, so it all depends on where your needle stops. No doubt a 992 is way faster than a 993, and no doubt a 993 offers a ton of feedback to the driver.

What's the fascination with "The-Last-Of" when it comes to Porsche? When I hear people mention the 993 being the last of, it reminds me of @TheBruce thread when he drove a 993.
