Wow, that dent in the barrel of the rear wheel is impressive! I'm glad you're all right. No damage on the nose or under the car?

Dan, stuff that hits you (fire, theft, rock to the windshield, falling tree etc.) is covered by the comprehensive part of your insurance. Stuff that you hit is covered by the collision part of your policy. It’s always better to claim under comprehensive as the deductible fee is usually lower. If your comprehensive is $100, then typically the collision will be around $300 to $500.

The whole collision vs comprehensive varies depending on state laws.

Wow, that's impressive. I hit a smaller rock - I couldn't see it as there was a truck in front of me which just drive straight over it - and although it made one hell of a bang, there was only a small scratch in the flat floor, and no damage found. I thought it was going to rip off a lower arm or something... these things are pretty tough. Thankfully.

Off topic, but I'm just more amazed by how your 06 still looks like a brand new car......the color definitely helps but it's just awesome.

Fortunately for me, my deductible is $100 for either comp or collision. So, it's a toss up to me. But I did discover that we had an earthquake (thank you Cal Tech) at around that time. That area had also burned about 18 months ago, so apparently many rocks were no longer encapsulated by good root structure. Thanks, also, to Google Earth, I figured that I traveled 5.9 miles from the hit to a park platz where I was ultimately retrieved by AAA. At a speed of about 50 mph it all starts to make some sense. I could not imagine a rock like that, with where it was in the lane of travel, would not have been hit by any other vehicle had it been there any time at all. Traffic was fairly heavy. Bottom line: I'm glad the shiny side is still good! It's a testament to great Germany engineering. The car never came even close to being out of control. The fact that I was able to travel nearly 6 more miles with tires like that says a lot!

Sorry this happened to you. I am just amazed you were able to drive as far as you did afterwards.

That looks like a nasty hit. Hopefully it is limited to wheels and tyres and your suspension is ok. Would still have to budget into this an alignment at minimum. And check shocks etc. Ive never seen anything like this, its like as if someone shot at the wheels with something massive.

But it COULD effect your rate & discounts going forward. Select wisely.
