Goodness, is there any thing on the right side he didn’t hit? It looks like he just kept driving along your car paying no attention to the buckling bending cracking sounds emanating from his front bumper. I know it is only a car and fixable and no one was hurt and all that but my heart goes out to you and really hope you are feeling a little better a couple of days removed from the accident. Cheers Paul

@FORENN I was in the Marine Corps from 1990 until 2011 when I retired. Not much going on in the world during those years, huh? Pretty charming time to serve.

It’s a Porsche web board, worst day ever.... in my Porsche.

That's why it's important to go about that process the right way. I got double that for the cost of my rear bumper replacement which I bet came to a lot less than what we're talking about here. Try to swing it on your own and you may get nothing or some symbolic ridiculous compensation that doesn't approach what future buyers will ding you for due to the accident. I'm not an insurance adjuster but I think I can say with a straight face that $3K to $4K for what's shown in the pictures would be a slap in the face of the owner of the car. I've learned a thing or two about diminished value claims from being rear ended twice now on two of my 997's.

Still wondering what might be behind that right rear wheel once it's pulled off and the probing starts. Hopefully nothing but if there's damage to the drive train it certainly would take things to a different level than just body work.

My post was poorly worded (and now deleted). I just meant that if no one was hurt and the car can be repaired, this is not nearly as bad as things could be (perspective). But of course it's still awful, I agree. Thank you for your service.

Would be good to post specifics if you can? How much was your car worth, miles and cost of repair at the time of the accident and what diminished value did you get?

Serious question though, what do people here think diminished value should be on an accident like that? It's not like it's going to have a rebuilt/salvage title. Would $10k be sufficient? Whatever number is sufficient today will be a bonus in however many years you decide to sell because then that $10k is on a car worth much less then.

...thank you for thanking me. No worries. My apologies for taking it the wrong way. Still a bit frustrated over this entire process.

I’ll post images along the way throughout the process. I’m working with a firm that is handling the diminished value all the way through. This process doesn’t even start until all repairs are complete and goes all the way through small claims court, if needed, up to $50,000.

I won’t be posting any specific numbers until I have a check in hand and the the car is back in my garage for obvious legal reasons.

My best friend was a Marine (active duty 88-92). He did a float to South America and then was in Desert Storm. The rest of his time was drudgery down at Camp LeJeune. His brother was a Marine about 6 years later and spent his entire time in Hawaii working a desk and surfing in his spare time.

It's amazing what difference a few years can make.

I’ve spent time in all of those places and a few more! Timing is everything!!! Especially when Devil Buses pull out in front of you....

Last pic pre-damage attached.

Initial estimate just in from the body shop that came through the firm handling the case, so I have no exact details, but I’ll update tomorrow with exact figures.

No damage to the drivetrain or suspension.

Any more guesses on the body work estimate???

If no frame or suspension damage and we’re just talking skins and a wheel/tire then I’m at $14k.

Btw, my request and diminished value details were to sandwedge since that info seemed to be in the past so less reason not to share. Your info, op, will obviously need to be a bit more careful about.

I definitely feel your pain. I had a very similar accident in my only new car about a year into ownership.

I suspect the final bill will land between 25k-26k due to known unknowns. high probability of yet to be seen damage. It is all good. You got your health, good insurance and a good body shop....and a good attitude.

This Navy Vet says thank you Marine for your service.

Lots of good advice so far.
