If you're changing your oil that often because of the way you're driving I would suggest having a Blackstone oil analysis done every other oil change. That way you can keep up with how the engine is wearing and any contaminants the oil is collecting. They'll make recommendations based on their findings too.

And even though you're changing the oil more frequently continue to use a high quality oil that meets the A40 specification with an OE filter. We offer Liqui Moly and have pre-made oil change kits available which all fall under our Lifetime Replacement Guarantee.

This thread is basically the same reason I started another thread asking about Mobil1 5w-50 (and 15w-50). I was worried that my typical daily shorter drives (15 miles for about 25 minutes each way) would not be long enough to burn off fuel / water that might be diluting the oil to be less than the 40 weight that is prescribed. As a result, I'm going to go with Mobil1 5w-50 and will be using Mos2 going forward.

I have no idea if this is the best course of action and not saying that you should do the same, just sharing what I plan on doing for what sounds like a similar situation.

Mobil 1 Euro spec 0-40 or 5-50 is pretty cheap from Walmart, often $25-$30 for each 5-gallon container. Can’t get much cheaper than that for a Porsche-approved oil.

Mobil 5W50 is not sold at Walmart, nor in 5 liter jugs. FYI. Hopefully some day. Bought some yesterday at Napa for about $5.50.

If you have no idea if that is the best course of action, why are you doing that? Did you do an oil analysis that showed your oil was breaking down from repeated short trips? If you were concerned about dilution why not just take it out for a longer drive once a week?

Get another car for short trips? I don’t understand using a 911 for drives where you are not getting the oil up to temp and not running through the rev range (because of the former)... Isnt it easier to just drive the 911 when you don’t need to be so concerned about these issues PLUS worrying about oil type etc? Even adding another cheap sports car could work?

Alot of wear happens at startup and warm up. Maybe a thinner 0W40 oil would be better for that specific situation. 9 quarts of A40 approved oil ought to last 3k miles. A filter certainly lasts more than 3k miles and could be changed once a year even if oil changed every 6 months. You should get more wear from short trips and lots of heat cycles, so maybe spend the UOA money on more frequent oil changes and enjoy driving and not worrying about which boutique oil is best, because in the long run, life is too short.

If you are never getting your oil up to temperature and you're worried about condensation and build up of acidic compounds in the sump, then the type of oil you run is not going to fix that. The only fixes to that are frequent oil changes or occasional drives that are long enough to burn off the water and contaminants.
