I've got an 06 C4S with the standard leather steering wheel (V shaped air bag, no controls) and would like to upgrade to a sport model that has a thicker wheel. Maybe I have big hands but the stock wheel seems too thin to me. I'm looking at custom models from Dallas Custom wheels and a place from eBay called DCTS, but are there any other options? Would like to stay as stock as possible but it seems the Porsche OEM Sport model comes with the round air bag, so I would have to upgrade the whole wheel including the airbag to make it work (which of course is big $$). Any other options I should consider?
Look up LedermanZ which, IMHO, is superior to all the options you mentioned. I got my wheel rewrapped by them and it came out fantastic. Only caveat is you must send your wheel to Europe but my experience was very clean. Here here a pic from his Instagram that I used as a basis for my order. Second pic is my car (sorry for poor quality) paired with the GT2RS **** I installed. Very happy with the setup.
Donald Le from Dallas Custom Steering Wheel did mine for $800. Donald is great/easy to work with!!! I wanted to keep my original wheel so mine cost just a bit more than it should of. Mine started out skinny & slippery and now has more padding w/ the red stripe. I followed the DIY on this forum to make it he swap. I just had to switch out the automatic buttons for my
multifunctional controls.

I don't know that you're going to get the thickness you're after with any of the OEM wheels. They're all skinny and like you said, the leather has a slippery feel to it.
I have big hands too and have bought two wheels from Dallas Custom. Definitely a big difference (pictures attached). Two ways to go. Buy the sport wheel if he has one in stock and then customize it to your preferences. Or do a core exchange (if he has a wheel with the triangular airbag cover) and customize that one. Both of mine were core exchanges and cost $450 each. Double that cost at a minimum if no core exchange.
I have a carbon and leather DCT wheel in my 997. Love it.
I also have a spare stock triangular airbag wheel I would sell for 50% of their core charge, plus shipping. You could either send them this wheel to do the modification on or install this one so you could keep using your car while the other steering wheel is being done. I think the core charge is $150-$200.

Let me know if interested.
Wheel looks good! i think i will take you up on your spare wheel offer. that would work for me. will send a PM.
i always wondered why the 911 wheels are so dang thin. Its about the only thing I liked better about my M3 than 911. I like to tell myself that its to accommodate for using gloves on the track
Most rewrapped wheels are done poorly where they lose their shape around the 10 and 2 position.
Even worse are the steering wheels that are rewrapped and have bunched up leather. Would proceed with caution - the OEM fit and finish is still the best.
