I purchased a 997.1 with the factory X51 power kit, however the original owner (and guy I bought it from) replaced the X51 air intake with a fabspeed aftermarket one. This seller still has the original X51 air box, but it was inaccessible (in the back of a storage space) at the time of sale, and has agreed to ship it to me in a year or so when he empties the space.
In the mean time, I came upon a local selling a 997.2 airbox for a really reasonable price and was wondering if it would fit on my 997.1 X51 car. The X51 997.1 car does have the two intakes on the deck lid, similar to the 997.2 cars, but I don't know if those line up and about everything else.
No, intakes between the 997.1 and 997.2 cars are not cross-compatible. Both the lateral location across the engine bay and the angle of the throttle body are different.
The absolute best airbox for a 997.1 X51 car is the Champion F77 carbon fiber one. Pricey and hard to find, but awesome looking and performing as they draw air only from the two inlet vents in the decklid, just like the factory airboxes do. I test fit one once, but it wouldn't work with my supercharger setup
