Default 997.2 cigarette plug

I'm thinking of putting a trickle charger on my 997.2 through the cigarette lighter. Does anybody know if my car goes to sleep whether it disables the continuity on the cigarette lighter outlet ?

Cigarette lighter is connected to the electrical bus all the time as is the footwell receptacle - makes no difference the state of the car - locked, unlocked etc.

For a maintainer you can use either receptacle as the device is MA. For a true trickle charger use the higher current capacity cigarette lighter.

Thanks, haven't thought of the passenger footwell outlet.

I use the center console plug. If I used the footwell plug, I'd eventually forget and drive away with it plugged in. Center console wrapped around shifter is foolproof. I'm describing my own potential here...

Something might be wrong with me or my footwell plug but I get mixed results with it. Sometimes I will come in and see that the unit is off after plugging it into the footwell.
When I use the cigarette lighter, it works 100% of the time every time.
Regardless, I think anyone on this forum will check it 1000 times rather than just leaving it for weeks or months, so yeah, just check it if you do the footwell IMO.
Even with a broken wrist pretty soon after surgery, I would amble out there pretty much every day to look in on the charger and my car.

I think the root problem here is you need to drive it more. No trickle charger needed if you drive and enjoy it daily. Okay all jokes aside. Yes either plug will keep the battery maintained.

I like the CTEK cable extension that is bolted to the battery posts. I would recommend the CTEK charger anyway. When needed you just extend it out past the frunk w/s and close the lid. It attaches to the charger cable with a small clip. No openings for mice to get in.

x2 on this method .... I find the cig lighter "inside car"method not that practical. Why would you want to go this way when you can attach directly to the battery with a $50 battery tender - No openings and direct to the source and accessible anytime without opening anything.

You lost me there. How can the extension cable be fed to the power source, or the Ctek without opening anything.

There’s a power outlet (cigarette lighter) in the passenger footwell?

You can connect to the battery from the top of your hood with snap in disconnect from Ctek. Fittings attach directly to each battery terminal

Yes on the 997.2 models. Not sure about the 997.1

I also wrap my charging cord around my PDK handle as I've backed out with it plugged in also.

Maybe that is my issue. I have a plug in my .1 but it might not be live when the car is off/locked. I have found the cigarette lighter useful because I didn't have the physical ability to get to my battery when I was using it.
