Don't have it running in front of me but If I recall correctly it is in the rear control module.

And I also replaced the two fuses under the Bose box and "upgraded" them:

3A --> 10 A

Which fan "kicks in" - the single fan in the engine compartment or the fans up front by the radiators or both?

Also, why the "upgraded fuses"? If you were blowing the OEM fuses that might be indicative of your problem.

If the sensor is dead and can’t read the temp, then it doesn’t know when to trigger the fan and therefore no error message. I agree, check the sensor and maybe the relay.

edit: I’m not sure about the 997.2 configuration. I’ll try to dig up something later today.
All true as this happened to me recently. I was getting the, compartment fan failure message. Turned out to be my relay and now all is well. PO not getting an error message is a bit trickier.

This was proven today at a DE event with 90 degree ambient temp and 250 degrees oil and 215 water temp. So the engine was surely hot enough... but fan: nada

The fan works. Simple test: Turn on the A/C with the engine running and the fan kicks in.
And I also replaced the two fuses under the Bose box and "upgraded" them:
7.5A --> 20A
3A --> 10 A

So my next guess is that the temp sensor in the engine bay is bad.
Is there a way to test it and does anyone have the parts number?

I would "downgrade" your fuses to the proper spec. Fuses are engineered to blow before components or wires themselves. It's a really bad idea to replace a rated fuse with a larger one. Engine fires are the biggest reason. Blown up expensive components or ECU are another. That 7.5 - 20amp is electronic suicide. Trust me I was an electronic tech for over 15 years. NEVER increase a fuse. If it blows - FIND THE REASON.

Porsche put out a TSB to change that fuse from 7.5 to 10A if a customer came in with this problem. I have that documentation somewhere in my files. I suspect there is a further update to this TSB that recommends increasing it to 15A based on some info I found online but I admit I do not have this in writing from Porsche.

Lee, you are now officially my hero!
I looked at this screen many times, but it never occurred to me that "engine department purge fan" is actually the "engine bay fan"
1,000 Thanks

Exactly, and - quite honestly - I rather have the car burn down before I wiggle my 200 lb on a 6.1 frame into that snake-nest again to switch fuses:

Mark, Not the ones for the engine bay fan, they are next to the ECU under the rear window

Yes...!!!...so now you can run your fan in the pits if you wish....and check if a missed shift got on record.
