i have the problem that my engine fan doesn't kick in after I park the car with hot engine.
This was proven today at a DE event with 90 degree ambient temp and 250 degrees oil and 215 water temp. So the engine was surely hot enough... but fan: nada
The fan works. Simple test: Turn on the A/C with the engine running and the fan kicks in.
And I also replaced the two fuses under the Bose box and "upgraded" them:
7.5A --> 20A
3A --> 10 A
So my next guess is that the temp sensor in the engine bay is bad.
Is there a way to test it and does anyone have the parts number?
Durametric will tell you if you have a code. Personally I wish the fan wouldn't come on once I park and turn the car off. Some times it does, some times it doesn't. It would be interesting to know when and why this fan comes on. In my experience it does not correlate to anything in particular but it must.
No I'm not 100% sure so I'll send you the workshop manual and the PET for the 997.2. But I highly recommend you get Durametric or have it scanned before you think something is wrong.
Still not sure why you are convinced something is wrong.?.?.? Your oil and engine were hot......but what good would a small fan do on a stopped engine? I could see if the water pump and rad fans kept running but that little fan isn't going to do anything. Your engine bay is hot soaked for hours.
Your other starting issue could be related.
Are you getting a warning light on your dash when the engine is hot and the fan is not turning on when it’s supposed to?
If the sensor is dead and can’t read the temp, then it doesn’t know when to trigger the fan and therefore no error message. I agree, check the sensor and maybe the relay.
edit: I’m not sure about the 997.2 configuration. I’ll try to dig up something later today.

Well, in the paddock I was surrounded by several other Porsches from my run group with their engine fans running, so I figured that's odd than mine isn't
I have the same issue on my 2010 C4S after adding a fixed wing and programming for it. I was wondering if removing the rear light plug from old lift spoiler or the "fixed wing" setting caused something. Was going to research how to manually turn on fan to cool her off on my track days. I live in FL and track at Sebring so fan used to come on quite a lot. Was thinking a sensor may have gone bad but the timing with wing install is suspicious.
Mine does work but I never know when. When I think it should come on it doesn't and then when I least expect it, it does.
It never did at the track, but will sometimes come on at home.
I had not heard my fans kick on or run for 5 years or more. I remember the fans coming on during my early ownership fairly often. For five years during my annual service I have asked the dealer to check to make sure that the engine cooling fans were operational and each year they said "no problem". I stopped at a gas station last summer and there was another C2S there and the fans on the other car came on while we talked. My fans did not come on. I was worried again. Yesterday I drove my car about 10 miles in 90 plus weather and sure enough about 5 minutes after shutting the car down, the fans kicked on. I don't know what the parameters are, but I now assume that the fan works. Oh, and to top it off, I mentioned the running fans to my grandson who was with me. He said "yeah, they do that a lot after you shut the car off and go inside". I am an idiot.
I noticed the same same issue on my 2005 C2 - used to hear them when the car is off, but not now and I believe it does kick on when started and the A/C is on,, will have my Indy check it on the next oil change. Earlier this year my front passenger fan was constantly running - turned out I had a small stone stopping the driver side fan. Removed the shroud and worked the fan free and all good now on the that front. Learned what the problem was from this forum, thats why its great, even the health related off topic discussions which has prompted me to revisit my whole situation regardless of who is right or wrong.
For anyone who wants to test their fans or even run them at the track or whatever....you can do so with Durametric so bring your laptop to the paddock. Probably want it there anyway for various reasons.

Where is the setting in Durametric to run the engine bay fan? (I have the Pro version)
