Saying Goodbye
Sending a note of appreciation to all of you. You folks have helped me a ton over the past 18 months. Due to a health issue, I had to trade the 997 in for a 2018 Macan (I can get in and out of the Macan easier). I already miss the 997, but am happy to stay in the Porsche family. The Macan is very nice and I did get PASM and the air suspension so it has a pretty good sports car like feel.
I wish you all the best and thanks for the great advice you shared on my 997. Heading over the Macan forum.

Good luck to you Jack. From everything I've heard, the Macan is essentially a cross over 911, and should be almost as much fun to drive. It does suck having health set backs, but hopefully you'll be past it in no time.

You're still in the family and in no way the red head step child (apologies to all RHSCs)
I am working on my fitness including specialized activities to make getting in and out of a 911 more graceful (and easy on the seat bolsters!)

Best wishes to you going forward! I recently had a similar scare: a herniated disc caused me to fear that my 997 days might be over. Fortunately, it's not the case. Docs said a) my back problem was not caused by my 911 and b) driving it in the future shouldn't be an issue. So far, so good: my 997 proves to be much more comfortable to drive (even w/3rd pedal on the bad leg!) than my wife's RAV4.
As I said - best wishes and cheers!

Best of luck with your health; thats really the most important thing. As for the Macan, I traded out of my 2003 996.2 into one of the first Macan S models to arrive in America, and drove it almost 3 years before giving up, getting lucky and finding the 997.2 GTS that I really wanted. The Macan S is a fantastic car, but it's not a 911. While supremely capable, it felt like a magic carpet ride to me. All the capability thanks to electronics, but none of the involvement or soul that you get from a 911. I hope that your health will allow you to get back into a 911 one day. If not, as you said, you are at least still in a Porsche.

Even though I am in my early 40’s my surgery count is in the double digits with 3 of them being spinal surgeries. One of the reasons I bought my car was the exact point of why you are getting out of a 911. I still can get in and out of my car, but do not know for how much longer that will be possible with my health. It was now or never in owning a 911. I hope your health gets better, but even if it doesn’t I am sure you have lots of memories of your 911.

Thank you all for the very gracious comments. Hope you guys don't mind if i still hang around this forum. What a great group. I do want to purchase another 911 in the future. ThomasCarrera is correct. The Macan is very nice but the involvement is different than the 997. I will definitely miss it.

Good luck. The Macan is very capable and sporty. Though you'll miss your 911, you'll only miss about 20% of it and maybe someday you'll be back in a PDK model.
I'll see you over on the Macan forum as even though I don't have one yet, it may be the next model I add, either for my wife or daughter so I've been following along over there to learn the problem areas and experiences of the trail blazers before me, of which you now are one.
