Default 997.2 GTS4 vs GTS 6sp

977 Team, I’m considering a 997.2 gts4 6sp. But have never driven one and only the gts. Any key thoughts on key driving differences? I’m not one to push a car to its limits and looking for a fun and stable ride. I’m in a warmer climate too. Thank you and hard to find a lot of reviews to compare. Also thinking of resale and the 997 GTS4 seems rare @1321 produced.

I think the regular GTS is the more special car than the GTS4 because all 4s are widebody cars but most RWD cars are NB (C2, C2S, GT3) so the regular GTS being wide body and RWD only is more unique over the 997 model run. RWD is also the better driving car if you don't need the AWD. It has more precise steering feel, is more "playful" if you turn off PSM, and has one less pair of driveline components to maintain.

The AWD cars are super planted though, with a tendency toward understeer if that's what you like.

Seriously though, he pretty much ends all debates when it comes to these cars. Even before I first bought, Pete's knowledge and insights saved me $1,000s and weeks of frustration.

Either way you can't go wrong.

I have a GTS4 and have to say, it's definitely planted. My first preference would have been the 2WD version but the build sheet was even more important to me. I needed a 6sp, alcantara delete and aerokit more than the RWD.

See Petza's response below. Summed up spot on. A 4GTS is basically a C4S with the X51 power kit, some alcantera here and there and most of the time centerlock wheels. Which is probably why it was built in fewer numbers than the regular RWD GTS which although built in greater numbers than the 4GTS is more unique since it's the only RWD widebody 997.2 except for the GT3 RS and the GT2. That said, you say you want a "stable" car but are also concerned about resale value. The 4GTS will definitely be more stable than the RWD GTS but I bet good money that the RWD GTS will hold its value better than the 4GTS so you have to decide which is more important. If stability and a secure feeling driving the car is more important than performance, maybe consider a C4 or C4S instead. For the most part, the same look as any of the GTS's but with less HP. Not as unique as any of the GTS's but will save you a good amount of money in purchase price.

I'll go down as a dissenter. I have a 997.2 GTS and 991.1 GTS and I'd prefer either of them as AWD. It shocks me to even say it, as I've always enjoyed getting the tail out and thought I would hate Porsche AWD. Until I owned one. Had a 997.1 C4S and the fun of grip outweighs wheel spin. For me.

But finding 4 GTS's is TOUGH and from what I see they command a premium.
