Have you had quality seat time in a C4S and compared it to a C2/C2S? I had a 2003 C4S, but I sold it mostly because it felt too heavy to me. I prefer lighter cars. I have owned my 997.2 C2 PDK for 6 years and love it. Does it look as good as a C4S, of course not. But it feels better to me from behind the wheel. It didn't have Sport Chrono, but I added the software upgrade/switch panel to get the benefits of Sport and Sport Plus modes without the "wart" on the dash. I feel I got the best of both worlds. If I didn't need a back seat for grandkids, I'd probably get another Boxster or Cayman, just for the lightness.

Noob to the 997 question
are all the 997.2 clear of the IMS issues?
are all the 997.1 not ???
or was there a certain year to look out for?

Read some of these and determine your own risk tolerance for the 997 engines.

The .2 doesn't have an IMS bearing. The engineers re-designed the entire engine and there is no IMS bearing in the new engine. Early 2005 and some 2006 had a smaller IMS bearing which must be replaced. From 2007 on you're pretty darn safe. If it's too scary for you, which is understandable, just get a .2

You said auto was ok, so I'll go contrarian. Look for an 06 -08 C4S cab tiptronic with low miles, put the big dollars saved toward those turbo wheels(I got a good used set shipped for $1400) and fister exhaust model if no PSE, so you can enjoy the sounds top down. The Tip is supposed to be reliable and it was good enough for plenty of turbo buyers. You will have money to spare for the unexpected Porsche tax when something goes wrong.

Yeah like I said, I've driven a manual for SEVEN years. Sure it's great in the twisties, but not much fun anywhere else. So I'm not too worried about the tiptronic. And I'll have to pay $3k to repair the clutch exactly never, haha!!! But most I find are manual and that'll be great too.

Do you guys recommend joining the PCA "Test Drive" to browse PCA classifieds? Will there be cars for sale there that I just won't find anywhere else? Thanks!

I'm hoping like $39k but for the right car I might be willing to go up to $44k. I've seen several that are close to what I want for $35ish. As far as driving, I do about 6000 miles a year, I drive 1-4 times a week probably, short distances mostly. I do turn my own wrenches on basic things, such as brakes, AC, alternators, stuff like that. I suck at electric/under the dash stuff.
My dream car is a 4S cab, black w/sand or natural leather, really really want full leather. I want Turbo wheels, but I'll get those later if necessary. Also want under 70k miles. That way I'll probably never reach 100k. Either transmission is fine. I've driven a stick shift for the last 7 years. So an auto might be kinda nice. I don't care about how bad the tiptronic is, but PDK sounds VERY exciting! Manual is great too! The main reason I kinda want to skip the manual = clutch replacement. Autos seem pretty bulletproof.

Joining the PCA is always a good idea. I've seen under priced Boxsters and vastly over priced air cooled 911s and everything in between. All things equal, I'd rather buy from an avid PCA member than a dealer trying to make a profit.
