Default Airbag warning

I have a 997.2 with an airbag warning light. I am not sure if that will be an issue on my state inspection so I would like to make the warning go out. Does anyone know a way to extinguish the warning light? Yes, I know the solution is to fix the problem with a dealer but that is not an immediate option. I just want the light out now and deal with the airbag later. Ideas?

thank you,

Ha! Even a DOT inspector might notice a chunk of tape on the dash.

Have you scanned it for codes? Once you get the exact error code then we can suggest possible measures. Sometimes even clearing the code will make it go away atleast for sometime. Else it’s only the electrical tape option if you just want to get rid of it for now.

Any work done recently on the steering wheel, seats, or door panels?

My code reader does not work on Porsches. I will try borrowing one. The car had an accident prior to my owning it but the light is after repair.

Yea, you're going to need to pull the specific code. The seat belt pretensioners will also trigger an airbag light whether they were in use during the accident or not as they have a Pyro charge in them that fires when the airbags deploy. You can get the belt to unlock, but if the pretensioner fires, it will throw a code. Could also just be a bad connection in one of the yellow airbag system connectors. Unfortunately, with most airbag lights, they won't clear on their own after the problem is fixed - they have to be reset.

Great to know, thank you. I will see if the local auto parts place can read/clear codes next week.
