I know the thesis of a less strong dollar was likely one of the factors you considered as part of the decision to move out of the country. That may very well wind up being the case, but I am not sure the 997 market is necessarily a data point that supports the thesis. An alternative explanation is that we have unparalleled wealth concentration in this country and some of those people who benefit from the wealth concentration want to buy 997s. Why not? They have the disposable income which they likely earned in some form or fashion. Why not spend it how you want to? My gut is that supply/demand imbalances in this super niche market explain more of the price dynamics than any real macro trend, aside from the concentration of wealth that enables some folks to have a lot more disposable income than others.
In the end you may be spot on w/ your analysis, but the dynamics of the 6MT 997 market are not likely an important data point that can be used to either prove or disprove your hypothesis.

I still have 7 houses in the US with 6 in Nashville purchased at $120 to $150 a sqf and now some of these properties are $350 plus a sqf and rapidly increasing at about 15 percent a year the last 2 years. Love seeing rising prices.
My point is worth. This wrecked 2009 base cabriolet for $56,500. Holy cow, that car is not even remotely worth that price. I am all about it for the sellers, but in shock at what I am seeing and feel bad for buyers having to pay this much for a BASE car with a marred Carfax. Not just, Porsches. Other brands and boats are getting a little crazy in pricing in the states.
I left the US to surf, live on an island and sail to surrounding islands on a little 47 Lagoon Cat I picked up. Our life was very good in the States which made it difficult to leave, but this had been my plan for over 10 years.
I traded the rat race and driving my Porsches for this taken at moored Gili Air and Gili Trawangan this weekend with Bali Valcanoes, Gili Meno and Lombok in the background and 10 year old daughter playing on the beach in the sunset on Gili Air at Mowe's.
