Default Take a 997 and call me in the morning

The issue started years ago. There were the posters on the wall, the neck strains with quick turns looking to the left or right, and the feelings of missing out. Sure, I tried to self-diagnose...started with a V8. Shoulda had a V8 right? It was a spicy Cayenne S, but it was too much after a while. I decided on a smaller dose, a Panamera GTS. That felt good. In fact, it felt damn good. Good balance between sport and practicality. My hearing seemed to improve quite a bit as well, as I enjoyed the resulting pops and crackles and rumbles of the latest V8 meds. But there was always that feeling like I needed just a little something different. Like I was close, but not quite there. I researched the interwebs….I read various journals....and finally I found what I needed. A different medication entirely. The one that I had known about all along, but didn't think would be a good fit. Turns out, it's just what the doctor ordered.

Finally...

It's a 2005 S, 6-speed, with a good service history at a known local, independent shop. Things like the IMS bearing and clutch, the water pump, and a recent brake service have all been done. The interior is pretty clean as well, aside from the typical temp and fan switch wear. I like that the previous owner did the clear side markers and also the 991 wheels, but I'll be replacing the low profile Pirellis for a set of Michelin Sport 4s real soon. It's been a long time coming, but I'm super stoked to finally have my first 911.

Congratulations! Awesome choice!! I think you are right on track with what the doctor ordered. 911 is just good for the body, mind and soul. Banging gears through a canyon can cure just about any stress . It is good for hitting all the senses in a good way. Gets all those endorphins firing all at once. The adrenalin pumping and body tingling. 911 is the red pill I like taking as often as possible!!

Those 20” wheels? Love the look of them but prefer 19”.

Congrats! I am also on the side that thinks 20" is just a tad big on the 997 platform, but your new ride looks great. Sounds like great service history too.

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the feedback. For sure, I've read the back and forth debates on wheel size preferences on these cars, and while I would agree that 19" is a pretty good ideal size, the 20's off the 991 don't look too shabby in person. In fact, they kind of changed my perspective a bit on the whole debate. I had an opportunity to switch these wheels out for some 19's and decided to keep them. I think getting n-spec Michelin 4s' on them will certainly help with the ride quality and improve the look too.
Coming from the Panamera, the reduction in vehicular proportions is still taking some getting used to! Also strange not having Sirius and hearing a lot more of the car itself...so much more of an "analog" experience. But we took it up into our local foothills today, caught some fun roads, did some wine tasting, and enjoyed a great dinner on the way home. All in all, a proper first outing with her. Looking forward to many years of adventures and good times!

new tires , especially the 4S , will make a nice improvement in ride. i would even consider going a bit bigger in measurements for some added meat in sidewall diameter. so the tire will not look so "stretched" over the rim. I went up a tire size on my wheels and it made a nice difference filling up the wheel well too. added rubber will protect those 20 inch rims too. just something to think about. keep us posted!

For sure, I really like the 4s. I put a set on my GTS and enjoyed the feedback on the track and the compliance and comfort on the street. The car currently has fairly new Pirelli Pzero Nero tires with 305/25/20 rears and 245/30/20 fronts. I believe the original OEM size for those wheels would have been 305/30/20 and 245/35/20, so I'm looking at getting N-spec 4s' in those sizes and selling the Pirelli's.

Congratulations on your recently purchased 911. I’m your neighbor just up the hill in El Dorado Hills. I also recently purchased a 911 as my first Porsche ever and am looking for a highly recommended independent shop in the area. Would you mind sharing which one you use?

Congrats to you as well! This car has had a service history at Frank's Automotive on Folsom Blvd., so that's where I took it for its PPI. That was my first experience with them, and everyone there was fantastic, and I'll probably continue to use them outside of anything that may be necessary at the dealer (Niello), especially since they are conveniently right down the street from me. The other shop in town that I do have prior experience with is Midtown Autoworks on E Street. Similar to Frank's, they've been in business for a long time, and also specialize in German cars, specifically Porsche and Mercedes. I'd say you couldn't go wrong with either shop.
