Thoughts on a rebuilt 997.1S
#17
I will call 9xx in the morning and ask them about this particular job.
Edit: a little update. Just got off the phone with seller. He said that he bought the car from a salvage yard because he had planned to try to run a business rebuilding salvage cars and reselling them. Bought 2 cars and fixed them up and figured it wasn't worth the time so he gave that idea up and just decided to drive the 997 a little bit and now it sits in his garage. He says that the previous owner blew the engine due to the IMS bearing and purposely knocked the car into a curb to get insurance to pay for it or something along those lines since there was originally damage along the front bumper.
I can pm you his address and phone number Bash Hat if you'd be willing to check it out for me. Thanks again.

Actually I think the seller is in Newport Beach so if you wouldn't mind checking it out that would be pretty helpful. I'll ask him for more information for the location. Thanks.

Went back over the Carfax. Total loss, Odometer Rollback, Failed Emissions/Gross Polluter, 7 plus owners...
OP, I can't say this enough, the car is a hot mess, run dont walk. Its one thing if it had a warranty on the engine and they were asking salvage prices, but this is a suckers car. The car is worth low 20's at best.....and they know it.
Here are two comps without the lethal baggage:

Find a clean title, well-cared for 997 to start your ownership experience, not this basket-case. Ever heard the saying "the most expensive Porsche is the cheapest to buy".

The story seems extremely sketchy so I'll probably be looking at other cars.
But if you could check it out it would be helpful. Maybe his story checks out and it turns out to be a hidden gem. You never know haha.

Actually I just noticed another listing pop up and it's local. https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/spt_us...ting=229163314
Any thoughts? I can probably check it out sometime this week. I'm not all too sure what counts as high mileage for these vehicles.

Don't buy this car ...Way too many unknowns that you will only find out about later $$$$$ . Even if you pay a little more up front for a properly documented car you will be way better off than with this car. Pay now or Pay later ...Your choice ...

Bought my 2006 C2 base with exact same mileage for $27k 2 years ago so that one sounds fine. The one in Newport beach has checked way too many red flags already no?
