Default Dension or LaPower for a 997.1S

Please advise what is the better? I do have a multifunctional steering wheel. I have a IPhone. I do not have a CD changer. Where is the best mic location so I can be heard? I have read pros & cons of both. I do want to attempt to use it for making phone calls. My wife Gina was in a wreck a week ago and the police on the scene asked who all was talking on the phone while driving.

Thanks,
b

I had the older Dension for years and was happy until it broke. Now I have the LA Power. It was easier to set up, easier to use and is much cheaper.

LaPower no doubt. 1/3 of the price. Had mine for almost 2 years and its one of my favorite mods.

From reading old posts I get the same feeling. Where is a good location to mount the mic or is it hard/annoying for the other person to hear no matter where it is mounted?

I have had a Dension for 5 years and it has worked flawlessly. Mic is mounted on the drivers side visor and works well there

I have the LA Power and outside of a little alternator whine when a song isn't playing it works great. My installer just mounted my mic on top of the steering column (not a big fan of it there but it's my fault for not specifying) and the calls are very clear and my wife says she hears me perfectly.

I have the Denison and all the functionality works well. My voice quality isn't great and there's a good bit of background noise according to the people I'm talking to - keeps the calls shorter though Could be from the semi-solid motor mounts, Stage 2 suspension setup, or supercharger though where more NVH is being transferred to the call. My mic is on the driver's side visor.

Vern, do you know which 2 digit code you programmed into the unit and what kind of phone are you using with it?

Sorry no idea what the code is. I am using a samsung 8 for calls and streaming but also have an ipod plugged in as well. The ipod gives better sound since it is hard wired but the streaming i still pretty good

No doubt your mods contribute to the lack of sound quality but mines a cab and people can still hear me (with a little yelling ;0) even with the top down as long as i am not going too fast (which isnt too often!)

cheers

I was quoted $175 to install. Does this sound right. I’m not trying to act like I’m at a yard sale just want to understand if this price falls in line w/ the work needed to be done. I do not have a cd changer.

Thanks gang,

Thanks gang,
Who's doing the install? I'd say the labor sounds about right as it took me about an hour to instal but you'll need your car's CD changer loop enabled. A stereo install place probably won't have the means to do so.

A local stereo shop is going to help me out. Can I enable my cars CD changer loop cable with my Durametric basic cable or my Foxwell NT520 Pro scanner? Thanks I didn’t realize that I had to do that.

I installed the LAPower unit today on my 2006 C2S ... the new kit has a three-pronged MOST cable which makes it very easy. I did it myself in about an hour and works really well! I recommend the LAPower unit. I also have aa 2008 997 TUrbo with Tooki ... the LA Power unit works just as well, if not better, and is very cheap.

Same experience for me. LA Power is the best alternative unless Dension drops their price (to at least match) and increases their quality.
