A very easy way to remedy this is to apply the lightly tinted Lamin-X film for $50 that will make the two lamps match (although they'll be slightly darker... not like the full dark junk you see out there commonly)

Welcome! if you are like me the first few months was the most rewarding getting the car looking like new again. Im sure you will have lots of fun projects.

As for the light, if its crazed (tiny spider cracks that look like they are inside the lens) there is nothing you can do. You will need to replace it. If it just looks dull you might be able to buff it out with a headlight polishing kit. I would remove the lights before polishing. It will make it easier and rear lights might be as sensitive as the headlights. If you polish those the static can short out of the front control module. Ive never heard about the rears dong that, but ive also never heard of anyone having the rears oxidized like that.

That lazy route is you can take it to a details shop and have them polish the headlights and the brake lights plus put on laminex for ~$200.

The easiest way to check if the haze can be buffed out is to get it wet with a squirt bottle. If its goes clear, then get a headlight polishing kit and do them both. I would also pull both lights and check for hidden damage just for piece of mind.

Possibly the car (being used) was in an altercation at one time and the right side was replaced, leaving the left as the original, older item.

It could be a replacement tail lamp or it could be that the left lenses come out of the mold slightly different than the right lens due to the position in the mold. I would not use the headlamp re-finishing kits for the tail lamps. It won't do much. The headlamps are made from polycarbonate and are hard-coated. Polishing or other effects remove or wear the coating and the plastic is no longer protected from UV or the environment. Tail lamp lenses are made from acrylic ( polymethylmethacrylate). This plastic has much better UV resistance and does not need to be hard-coated. Acrylic, however, shatters much more easily and is banned from the front of the car for reasons of pedestrian safety.

Welcome to the forum!

As suggested, pull both tail lights to compare see if there are aftermarket or not. Two torx screws inside the engine cover, very easy job.

I recently removed my taillights for familiarization on how the rear bumper cover comes off for planned future work. Easy job that gives you more knowledge on how these cars are put together. With all the plastic pieces it's helpful to know how to avoid breaking something.

I will take it apart this weekend once the kids are put to nap !

I do like the lamin-x idea a lot too just in case this is one of those situations where the lamp just faded itself.

Is this lamin-x? I saw this from the 6speed forum but nobody can seem to tell--I've emailed them but wanted to see if anybody knew by chance... this looks really good to me.

Thanks again everybody for the continued help

Just one more thought, probably crazy, but the rear fog light is in that left rear housing, and when used, is a much brighter light (second pull of the light switch). If used often enough,, could be more heat generated in that housing causing yellowing at a greater rate that the right side.

That idea occurred to me, too, but I’ve never used my fog light.

I don't purposefully use mine either, but I often just give the switch a tug and it pops out to that second position without me even realizing it sometimes. Anyway, I do not have the issue with my rear housings.
