Default Hi guys, my first post!

Hi guys, my wife surprised w/ an 09 997.2 this past weekend and I'm in love w/ it in every way... the toughest thing on the first day was figuring up how to go up and down my curvy and steep driveway. But now that I've conquered that I found an issue on the taillamps... my left taillamp's clear is a lot less clear than my right one (doesn't look like condensation)--is this due to sun rays maybe affecting the clear? Or like grime (similar to what you see on yellow headlamps?).
My guess is if it's not one of the above it may be an aftermarket taillamp that didn't match up w/ OE specs? I'm not sure so I'm hoping for advice. Thank you so much guys.

DULL, FOGGY... doesn't look like condensation however.

It's very easy to remove the taillights (couple of Torx fasteners each). You could compare the part numbers and manufacture date. My guess is that it's just a material age issue that you're seeing.

You could try one of those headlight polish kits. They work wonders removing the yellowing. Afterwards cover the lens with clear bra to protect it from yellowing again.

I think that would be my first course of action too. You can alternatively buy spray-on UV protection that coats the surface after polishing.

Congratulations on the new car! What are the chances that both or one of the lights has clear bra film on it and that has started to yellow from age?

This was my first guess too. Like others have said, pull the light, check the part numbers, and the build date on the lights.

Probably one side got smacked or cracked and the PO replaced the one as said above. The refinish kit and Xpel clearbra is a good idea to start. A new one may be surprisingly cheap. They should have date codes as mentioned

Strangely, I walked out to the shop and the left tail light on my ‘09 is slightly more opaque than the one on the right. Nothing very noticeable unless you’re looking for it, but now I’m wondering if this is something to look out for on .2s. I am pretty sure mine are both original—they’re both Porsche housings, at least.

Welcome to the club. I had the exact same issue with the exact same tail light. Not really sure what the issue was but I ended up purchasing a new taillight and replacing it. Very simple fix. Good luck.

awesome thanks for all the responses guys! Yeah super lucky to have gotten this as a gift! Mmm I wonder if it might be a layer of film? When I run my finger through both lamps there’s an edge but not one that can be peeled just kind of a edge along the white portion.
