I got 20” initially and ended up swapping back the stock 19”. My car is dropped about 1” so I needed 30 profile tires for fender clearance. The ride was rough and not great for HPDE events

My understanding of Porsche wheels and tire sizes is that the diameter of the tire is critical for accurately displaying speed, odometer mileage, and other computer related functions. So if you increase the wheel diameter then you have to run tires of a lower aspect ratio to keep the diameter constant. The larger the wheel the thinner the tire. I would love to be wrong about this because I like a lot of rubber showing because of the look and the taller the sidewall of the tire the more compliant the ride. I have 19" turbo wheels on my 997.2 and I feel that the tires do not fill the wheel wells fully enough. If I install larger diameter tires there goes speedo and odometer data. So my response to the OP is if you really like the look of 20 inchers and skinny rubber then you are good to go.

The haters are comical.

Many instances where 20s are a superior set up. All
comes down to the wheel.

Much prefer a 20’ high end light weight
forged wheel with the perfect offset
made for the 997 then a set up that’s 18 or 19 that are made offering less strength, then use spacers, and in many cases heavier then high end 20s.

Anyone want to argue a lighter weight better made 20 isn’t better then a heavier set of 19 or 18s running spacers is dillusional.

Not sure how to say this but 18s on any 997 scream cheap. (Unless an epic 18 like some bbs e88s with the right color etc). Talking in general. Plus the car ends up with quite the massive wheel
Gap unless lowered. Sorry .

And 20s look bad? Sure in the wrong 20s but the right set up can look perfect....

happy turkey day all

Good question. Porsche has increased the size of their wheels as the size of the Carrera has increased over time. By keeping the car to wheel ratio consistent that have kept the Carrera look ageless.

Here is the data info on the wheels below.....imo this an example of a 20’ wheel set up that will
make the haters put down their torches and stones.... yes 20s can work if they are the right wheels. These come made for the 997 with the perfect offset. I am not running spacers and happy with where the wheels sit in line with fenders.

From manufacturer - There are wheels that look good, wheels that enhance your car’s performance, and then there are wheels that do both. The RF67 is one of those wheels that not only looks great, but also has proven performance benefits to back up its good looks. As with all Champion Motorsport wheels, the RF67 is made from a single piece of forged A6061 aluminum, heat-treated to T6 standards for maximum strength and durability, and forged using an 8000 pound forging press. This process results in an incredible maximum yield strength of 40,000 pounds per square inch (psi). Each step insures that the finished wheel is not only extremely strong, but also very lightweight, ranging from 19.5 lbs to 23 lbs depending on vehicle application, diameter, and width. And since every Champion wheel is born from a proven racing heritage, the RF67’s beautifully curved 10 spoke design will look get tons of looks whether you’re working on your lap times or just out for a casual Sunday drive.

Anyone who now appreciates Champion wheel quality and lightness from mickfluff's info, but who's not sold on the 20" look, I have some 19" fully polished Champion rs171s for sale in the marketplace. They're actually lighter than my current Forgelines.
