Default 19" or 20" wheels?

The 20s ride better than my 19s, also they weigh less.
Just bought a set of 20" Ruger Mesh wheels to replace my 19" Carerra classics on my 997 , looking for advice on tire size and also wondering if I should have went with 19s instead of the 20s. Thanks for your help

I’m planning on buying 18’s personally. I prefer function over form.

Well it’s a bit late to ask for opinions on wheel size, unless the wheels you bought are returnable. But you asked so I’ll offer my thoughts. I think 20” is too big from both an appearance and functionality standpoint. Try Tirerack for tires for it. There should be a number of options there.

I gotta hunch........ The younger you are, the larger the wheel.

Us older folks see nothing but trouble with large wheels.

The 997 suspension was designed for a maximum wheel diameter of 19”. 20” wheels look too big on the 997, in my opinion. Some wheel designs flaunt their diameter, while some hide it.

Putting 20" wheels on a 997 is like having a model wife and forcing her to eat a pound of chocolate for every meal. You got something good, why you want to make it handle worse, accelerate worse, and brake worse? The same wheel in 19" is lighter than in 20".. so you're just adding weight. Heavier wheels on a 911 make no sense.

The optioned 19" Carrera S II on mine are great. In fact, that's the top feature that kept drawing me to the AT ad when I was looking for a car.

I've always been hesitant to offer a negative opinion as it relates to someone else's 911. With that said though...

PLEASE STOP PUTTING 20" WHEELS ON 997's.

To join in on the dogpile, very rarely have I seen a 997 with 20" wheels that wouldn't look better with the same design in 19", to say nothing of the performance benefit of having the smaller wheel.

I'm surprised by the responses so far. I personally have the factory 19s, but I think 20 inch is fine on the 997, 21 is too much but 20s does not ruin the look in my opinion. 18s are good for function but I don't think it does the 997 look justice. Go for the 20s. Should look pretty cool.

Since I am getting a little giggle from reading this thread, I am going to go ahead and mod my 997 to take 24" wheels and join the circus.

18" with meaty tires. 20's will do nothing but make your car worse

I wonder why Porsche doesn't put 18's or 19's on new 991 GT and GTRS cars, if they are best for handling?. 19's are fine and really 20 is to if its a forged wheel and not a heavy cast wheel. OP 20 inch wheel is fine and wont really notice any difference in a day to day use between 19 and 20 if you got the right wheel and tire setup.

I like the look of both 19s and 20 inch wheels. I have both sets and switch them out when I get bored. I personally dislike the look of 18s on a 997 but I understand the function of it.
