Default Porsche Slow Sales # 1 and # 4

This has got to be about the 991* and not our beloved 997s.

This spring, at least 5 997s were bought out from under me in less than 24 hours while I was looking to buy.

Meursault88,

I found my 997.2 in Edmonton, AB. 3650 KM from Montreal. Drove it back home.

It's the Cayenne and 991.

I just went through this with the Cayenne vs other SUV options for my wife. The Cayenne used market prices are ridiculous for the car/options/features. They are awfully proud of those cars and I am not sure why. They aren't better driver's SUVs by any meanfull measure. We ended up with a 2016 GLE350 with AMG kit. It is AWESOME and 30% cheaper than a comparable age/mileage Cayenne.

Has to be. Haven't seen a 997 on my dealer's lot in at least 4 months now and I stop in at least once a month or whenever I happen to pass by.

Either
A-sell a lot of things for a small profit
Or
B-sell less for a huge profit.

I'm going with B for Porsche. And most 1-3 year old Porsches seem to be sold more at Porsche dealers - coming off lease I suspect.

And it's the newer Cayenne too, not the 2010s and older. Maybe Porsche should take a note as to what's happening in the market with respect to the "advancements" they're making. The 991 isn't any different or better than the 991.2 or likely the 992, so the people buying the new ones are those that just need to have the newest model and that makes the used cars on the lot more price sensitive to the pool of prospective buyers that care more about having bluetooth, how the car looks, and the published 0-60 time than how it is to work on or really to drive. Those who appreciate the drive and character are keeping their 997s, like us here.

Same deal with the Cayenne after the 957 generation where they made it much more effeminate in styling (pointy nose, rounded rear hatch, shaped taillights, etc). I bet if you survey the men to women ratio between the 955 / 957 and then everything after that a much greater percentage of men own and drive the older models with a much greater percentage of women driving the newer ones.

The right older Cayenne, like my 09 Turbo S, with a few mods, will run circles around any other SUV out there. With PDCC and the current 650 HP it will rip up a mountain almost as fast as my 997 - it's remarkable. I'm so glad Porsche got it right for a few years in the mid 2000s before unnecessary Tech and an emphasis on fuel economy took over. I should be good for the next 15-20 years or so.

Seems the article is talking in averages... so that one highly optioned mint metallic specimen might skew the whole thing.
