MUD FLAPS behind FRONT tires on 997's
Many of us with 964's have installed these front mud flaps right behind the front wheels. They greatly reduce the amount of rash we get on our rear hips.
As you can see in the pics below, the curvature of the 964 is not the same as the 997, thus they would not retro-fit.
.... ( Pelican calls them stone guards for the 964. part # 965.559.615.01 and 965.559.616.01 )
Anyone know if any manufacturer builds / sells a similar mud flap for the 997 ???
Pics... (the red car is the 964. .... Then I did a test fit of 964 mud flap on the Blue 997.2, but as you can see in the last pic, the curvature is wrong...)
I also have this post over in the "what did you do to your 997 today" thread,.. but that thread is over 7k posts long, is probably not the right place for this Q&A

Burning Brakes
Steve,
This can definitely be done.
I designed end-cap parts that integrate onto the front wheel well as part of the 991 side skirt install (pics here: https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...l#post14229861)
I could re-use the same attachment technique/design, but modify the rest of the part for the flap portion.
For the 997.2 rear splitters I also integrated those into the wheel arch which in turn provides a little extra protection from stones at the rear (pics here: https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...l#post15173025)
If you don't find an alternate solution, I could look into this in a few week's time, as I have another design project on the go right now, which is using a lot of my spare time.

I'll agree that the size of the original factory 964 Leichtbau works well on the early 90's 964 Turbo's. My wide flares from that time period do well to accept a mud flap that size. It is appropriate, looks great and is functional (Weissach thought so too).
And I'll also agree that putting that same size mud flap on a newer gen 997 series car would be a bit too large. It would not be proportional to the rear factory flap that already exists.
And so when I look at the size of the rear deflector flap (in front of our rear tires on 997's),.. I do think that a smaller front flap (behind the front tires) could do the trick to protect, and yet remain "in line" with the look & feel of the car.
My .02 ... but hey, thanks for chiming with such an inciteful post.

MANY Thanks for chiming in here EMC2!!! I will certainly take you up on the offer to design & build a front mud flap.
Maybe it would even be a good alternative or replacement to the end-cap that you designed & printed.
Let's keep tossing these ideas around!!
