Dear all,
Really messed up tonight, first time ever this level….I though that I could do very quick mech. thing tonight.
Easy easy thing, done it before. Remove the PCM.
Short story, My pcm started behave odd, I sent it to a well known German electric shop. They fixed it, PCM back in the car, I took the car to my Porschecenter for activating the PCM- Navii. They fail
to do this. The German tech. firm laugh. "Its a job of a fith grade.Send it back to us and we will change boot programming"...
Back in the car. in 5 min All the screws and panels out, beside the 2 lock screws on both side, passenger side done, driving side i slip with my body and pull the lock srew too long and it snap, the lock mechanism is gone.
So is std. way to get it out. is gone.
Has anyone knowledge what to do with these locking screws?
Is there a known work around to get it out?.
I really messed up tonight, will never ever do a quick mech. thing just before put the kids to bed....
I've had the PCM double din unit locking mechanism to foul up and get locked into place too. I ended up having to remove the front panel/bezel and then the entire chassis to get the unit out. If you could post some pictures, maybe I could guide you through the process. I assume you mean the "lock screws" are stuck on the chassis. Let us know.
Good to know you have the side panels removed. Now, to remove the actual PCM3, you need to get the metal locks pushed inward. There are four locks on the corners of the PCM3 unit. The locks are located just below the black plastic screw. (as shown in the picture) Using a flat-head screw driver, gently push the metal locks inward while pulling the PCM3 out. If the lock in pushed inward correctly, it should go under the black plastic chassis that is holding the PCM3 unit to the plastic chassis. Work each corner until the entire unit slides out. Good luck!
Aha, So the "shield" around the screw is supposed to hold in the little metal clip past the heal. I have marked the shields with yellow dots, and a yellow arrow on the metal clip. I was too winded up to see that at first. So frustrated an angry with myself. Just push the metal clip inwards past the plastic edge should do it...

Congrats, you found it! X marks the spot! Just push those locks inward while pulling the PCM3 unit outwards.
Actually a pretty nice lock solution But on the other hand when I googled for lock screw pcm i found pices for sale without the metal pin so maybe I would just cut it away...

Yes, I seen that before, but be mindful, without the locks, the PCM3 unit could slide out. Those locks are the only thing holding it to the plastic chassis.
Yes, correct. I found that it was even possible to pull It out just by squeezing the metal clips with the fingers, they are not so hard. So I did that and pulled it out. Relieved but still angry with myself about breaking the screw from the beginning...
Glad it worked out! Don't lose any sleep over that silly little plastic retainer. There are bigger things to worry about like bore scoring, IMS failure, cracked heads, intermix to name a few.
