Default C2S front axle noise - GET READY

Hello, i am new owner of my lovely Carrera S 997, 2005 after 1 owner and 51 000km, about 30 000 miles.

I have problem with noise somewhere in front axle. Its not too loud, but you can hear inside the car in slowly kilometers per hour - 50kmh. But I think only during the first 5 kilometers.

Yesterday, I tried to check the both front wheels only with hands and the noise is interesting for me. I send video on youtube.com, here is it.

Do you have any ideas, whats wrong here? :/ Thank you.

For 1,the wheel shouldn't wiggle like that. Is the noise you're talking about the squeak as it wiggles back and forth or the thing that sounds like marbles rolling around after?

The squeak is probably the rubber control arm bushings, tie rod bushings, or sway bar bushings. With the amount of play shown, I'm thinking the former.

How's your tire wear, straight line stability, and steering precision - I'm guessing not too good but since this car is new to you, you may not know what 8ts supposed to feel like.

You need to lift up the front end to take the load off the wheel, grab it at 12 and 6 and try to rock it up and down then at 9 and 3 and try to rock it side to side. You'll be to see something moving or Louise when you do.

I wouldn't drive it until you find the source. That's a lot of play.

Hi and thank you for you answer,

today i tried put down the wheel and find where is the problem.

The first thing, that sounds like marbles rolling around after.

Tires wear is good, straight line stability is good too - of course during the aceleration and emergency braking on bad road - and steering precision is in my opinion very good. My old car was Mazda Miata and this is the car with one of the best steering in the world and my 911 is very similar.

So, i tried to rock it up and down ( 12 - 6) and left to right ( 3 and 9 ) with wheel up and without wheel - grab at brake disc and nowhere moving, all parts here behind brake disc like a rock!

But i can hear this noise like a marbles rolling around... with little moving on the top of suspension - strut mounts.

New video here. Of course, there is short version - only fast check for the video

So, neverending story about finding this interesting noise.. :-/

In service told me, that should be a front strut bearings, so I changed it, but no change. :-/ New knowledge is that noise became also without front suspension, disconnected lower arm, tie rod, sway bar etc! Definitely the noise don't became from chassis parts.

I don't understand, why the noise disapper after 5 miles from start the engine??? WTF

Since you can recreate the noise at will with the car stationary, it shouldn't be that hard to find. Get an automotive stethoscope and a helper. Have them rock the car or wheel that makes the noise while you move the contact point of the stethoscope around until to find out the source.
