How to improve sound on base 997.1?
I have a 997.1 S with absolute basic sound. I do NOT have Bose or Sound Plus. Needless to say, after 12 years, it barely works. Anything above whispering volume, speakers can't handle. I have been doing research, but everything I find is for Bose or Sound Plus (new amplifier, speakers).
What are my options?
I would like to also install a modern bluetooth / Apple CarPlay deck, but again, everything I see tells you what to do for Bose or Sound Plus equipped cars.
Please help a noob out!

Find a good car audio installer and get pricing to swap out the base headunit with a Pioneer, Alpine or Kenwood with the features you want. Consider replacing the crappy OEM Porsche amp and speakers. Look at JL Audio amp and Focal speakers if you want to make a dramatic sound field improvement. Spend less if your budget requires it. Updating the audio/nav/BT adds a tremendous bump to the enjoyability of these cars.

There was a recent thread about checking fuses and how one of the fuses was related to bass etc. Simple and cheap to check. IIRC if one of the fuses was bad, it knocked out most of the low end.

Also the ASK amp in the boot has a well known issue to crap out and sending no signal to the woofers in the doors. The below link is were I sent mine to repair. Scroll down to ASK amplifier M490

Is the ASK amp the one that I should replace if I want better sound anyway? Or if it’s broken I will have to get it fixed regardless? However, my car doesn’t have Sound Package Plus so not sure If I even have it.

I changed out the head unit to an Alpine CarPlay and an Alpine four channel amp. I left the stock speakers and there’s a considerable audible upgrade. Obviously, if you upgrade the speakers then it can sound even better. My car was a base model like yours.
