991.1 Sport Design wheel on 997.2

Three Wheelin'
Steering wheel.
Wire harness.
Control module.
These are all from my triangle multifunction steering wheel on my 997.2 not the Sport Design steering wheel.

So I understand that if I have a 997.2 with the nasty triangular MF wheel I can just upgrade to the Sport Design later type wheel?
car has the MF triangular wheel but seem to also have the stalks for the trip computer.
unless am missing something ?

If I’m understanding your question correctly, it appears all the stalks are on the collar so that should be a non-issue. Just swap the wheels. Or are you talking about the multi-function buttons? I believe in that case, if you want to retain that functionality, you need to get a wheel with the buttons and perhaps an addition module as well. Someone with experience should chime in.

I have a 997.2 C2S with the MF wheel. I wanted to freshen the most important driver interface in the interior, so I bought a brand new 991.2 GT MF wheel (which is black with silver switches). I'm pursuing a "black on black" theme for my car so I have then gone and purchased black switches for the wheel (porsche make wheels black with silver or silver with black but very rare/hard to get black on black except GT3 RS $$$). So now I have what I want, installing back into car tomorrow!

would love a GT wheel but too expensive to buy new and don’t mind keeping it “period” OEM with the sport design wheel being one of the options that became available for 997.2 along the way

Yes that was my question. Don’t care about phone buttons etc. As long as I have all the stalks I need I should be able to swap wheel and should be plug and play I seem to understand.

If anyone decides to go for a 991/Macan wheel, you can use this YouTube video (not mine) for DIY instructions. It seems pretty straightforward to replace the multi-function inserts with non multi-function inserts and to remove the PDK paddles. If you can get the wheel and air bag for about $1,200, that is not a bad price for a nice-looking steering wheel with OEM quality and looks. At least it looks better and is newer than the 997 wheels, IMO.

$1200 is a dream unfortunately. I’ve been looking at these for a week. Not even sure if I’ve found one on eBay with an airbag. Airbag is about $600 or more. Wheels can be had for $900-1600. I might just bite the bullet and do it already…and I found that video this weekend. It’s excellent!

Hi all,
Purchased my first Porsche! Dead pleased. 997.2 c2s, 2009, good set of options.
It came with the 997.1 triangular wheel (and I assume 997.1 steering wheel control module), which many of the early 997.2’s did afaik,
Ive managed to get a good deal on a 991.1 Sport Design wheel and airbag, but I’m not sure what to expect for fitting this.
The car is manual, it has the multifunction stalk and multifunction controls on the steering wheel (which aren’t great) - the new sport design wheel ISNT multifunction.
Now, I suspect I’ll have to replace the control module with a 997.2 or 991.1 module to get the airbag and horn to work... but I’m not sure and can’t find any good info. Also expect there will be some coding required!
Hopefilly someone with more knowledge can help point me in the right direction.
Thanks!
Edit: here’s what I’ve learned so far
1. Upgrading from a manual, multifunction wheel (997.1+) is plug and play
2. Any manual, non multi-function, non heated wheel up to the 991.2 wheel will work
3. No new steering module or coding will be required
4. A steering wheel swap guide is available here

Were you able to replace the triangle MF wheel from 997.1 on your 997.2 with a 997.2 or 991.1 wheel? If yes was it plug and play or required control module and/or coding update?
Thanks
