Default METAL SHAVINGS IN OIL..

I recently did an oil change on my 997.2 C2S and found metal shavings in my oil. I am currently using 0w40 mobile one. I change my oil every 3500 miles. I also let the car warm up before taking off and try to not rev the engine too much. There doesn't seem to be any metal shavings in the filter which I believe is odd. I don't understand why this happened?! I am feeling very sick to my stomach looking at the flakes my drain pan.

Is it safe to say I am SOL?
I am considering using 5w40 and a magnetic drain plug. I hope there isn't any severe/ permanent damage done.

any pics?
and youre sure no metal in filter? that's odd.
do you burn oil?
clean out all metal and add magnetic drain plug now.
check oil consumption through next change and report back then. you need to verify that this metal wasn't in there since breakin.

if you have excessive oil consumption then get a borescope and compression test. or you could do it now if you really want to be sure.
good luck

Help us to help you. Post up a pic or something. Which one is it? Is it metal dust or metal flakes?

is it magnetic? lots of alloy flakes continue to come away from the castings for a time.

More info needed. First thought is if the filter was clean then was the pan contaminated?

You may want to pull the pan and have a look at what's collected in the corners outside of the swirl pot areas. If you ever had plans to install a deep sump, make it part of that project. If there truly isn't anything captured in the filter this is likely metal that got trapped somewhere during the casting or machining process and then found its way down to the sump and got stuck in the corners away from the pump pick up. If there isn't any in the oil filter, that means it didn't circulate through the moving parts of the motor and you want to get it out before that happens, which means dropping the pan.

Depends on how much metal and what it is. Post a pic.

No pics?

There is a thread started about this already, I'd say mods close this thing down before we give all the .2 owners a heart attack.
