Default Gear oil

I know this is not 997 related but this is a busy forum so I hope someone has an answer

I bought 7 quarts of Porsche 75w90 to do the trans and diff in my 996. Well, sold the 996 and now have a PDK and the fluid is just sitting there.

My sons subaru needs 3 quarts is GL-5 for the diffs.

Is the Porsche stuff GL-5?

No, it is GL.4.5 - 4 is for manual transmissions, 5 is for differentials (axles). Porsche' manual transmissions are both hence the mid point.

Now, having written that, I know for a fact that two P-dealers in my area put in Mobil Delvac a GL5 into our cars. Both of them didn't even carry the Mobilube GL4.5 product. My manual specs Mobilube GL4.5 exclusively..... go figure.

Peace

Ok. Anyone want to buy some? I got 7 liters.

Another off topics question as I sit in Aruba and drink beer.

What is the distance between the jack points on a 997.2? I am buying a quick jack finally and I want the 7000 lb one, but is is 71 inch lift points?

I think I paid $107 plus shipping two years ago. And I think this stuff is now $30-$40/liter.

Let me do do some shipping calculations Thursday and I’ll let you know.

The distance is approximately 54". I went with the BL-5000SLX; if you really want the 7000 don't get the EXT version as the frame length is too long.

Car up on my Quickjack BL-5000SLX for Fister muffler install.

I have the 7000 SLX and it works fine for 997 jack point but is a bit heavy - 5000 would have been better.

Each frame of my 5000SLX is 76 pounds. Not too bad to position but you know you're dealing with some weight when maneuvering them. Frames on the 7000SLX are 96 pounds each, a couple of sacks of potatoes more.

the longer one will only work if you add the SUV adapters and ramps at the front wheels... when you lift it,,,, the tires drop down onto the lift and you cant remove. I made the mistake of buying the longer version....
