Condolences to his friends and family.
Looking at the photos the damage certainly looks like some high speed driving was underway. Judging from the price of the car, I assume it was 911. How often do you see a boxer engine ejected from the chassis in accidents at normal speeds?
Save the 140+ mph driving for the track! That being said, how did LEOs know he was going 148mph? Are there radar cameras in NC? Were LEOs chasing him?

Very sad to hear

I have a ~500 hp turbo and rarely if ever hit triple digits.. even on highway... cant imagine 148 mph on a public road.

Definitely no radar cameras at that location.

What a shame! A lifetime cut short by 30 seconds of poor judgement.

There is a lesson here. Stay safe and drive within your control zone...

I live fairly close by. Wade Ave certainly isn't the place for high speed runs, even if you were going to be doing such an inadvisable thing. Just glad he didn't hurt anyone else while jackassing around. I don't believe there is a sharp enough turn anywhere there where the car couldn't make the curve at 150mph. Possibly just a steering correction that didn't account for the speed in question.

Yes, that must be a scary fact for Porsche.

And for all we know right now, he may have had a heart attack and his foot involuntarily slammed the gas pedal to the floor.

Rest in Peace! It's very easy to go fast in these cars and one careless mistake can end it all.

Yep, no reason to be judgmental. We have all had our momentary lapses and taken unnecessary risks. Condolences to his family. Heartbreaking for the young children.

WOW. That damage is insane, I can't even imagine what transpired there.

Such a senseless thing to do on a public road with so many trees around, such a shame.

Not as bad as the aftermath of Ryan Dunn's GT3 and he was only going about 132to 140 at the time of his wreck.

On impact the speedo needle gets stuck at that speed (as far as I know).

I thought the speedo sticking at the final speed was a myth?? Of course that assumes that at 148 mph the speedo needle stays in place.
