Another rear end story
Sitting at a stoplight tonight. Light turns green and traffic starts moving and then stops as did I. An asshat behind me in a BMW 335I didn't stop however and ran right into me. Pretty hard hit. Enough to splash water from a 3/4 full water bottle in my cup holder all over the dash. Also hard enough to push my car into the car in front of me so damage both front and rear. Can't wait to see what they find when they remove the rear bumper. The thread about the 991 with frame damage comes to mind. Really sucks to have a perfectly clean GTS brandished forever for no fault of mine.

Ugh, that sux. Sorry to hear. How bad is the front?
I was gonna post on the other thread about Diminished values.. I didnt have that hard of a time collecting from State Farm here in TX, this was in 2011. 2007 Base Cayman, purchased in 2009 for 30K. Was hit in front, new R fender, hood, bumper. About 7K in damage as I recall. Once it was all repaired, THEN I hired a guy to do an appraisal, paid him $300. Turned into State Farm, we negotiated, I got paid about 3K. Seemed fair to me. When I traded in the car a year later I dont think it had an affect on my trade-in value.

I'm sorry Jonas! I remember the sinking feeling I had when my car was rear ended in 2011. The good news is they'll fix it as good as new (as long as you do some investigation on where to take it and don't rely on the Porsche dealer to tell you). I was keeping this PTS Turquoise Blue car forever so I didn't worry about future value and didn't want it totaled and mine was hit much worse. Now it's 2018 and I've never had one bit of trouble relating to the accident. My car was leased at the time.
Good Luck with the repair!

Mine too. Both my 997 and my Cayenne have irreplaceable rear bumpers. The RUF RGT bumper on my silver car was the last one they made or ever will make and it had been sitting on the shelf in Germany for 3 years in case one of their customers with an RGT or RT12 had a rear end accident and needed it, but I eventually convinced them to sell it to me. The one on the Cayenne is a Misha and I guess they could make me another, but it would likely take months.
This just sucks though. Make sure you check the exhaust for damage.

I know this doesn't apply to the rear end accidents documented on rennlist lately but something I've been in the habit of doing ever since I first drove in Europe is hitting the hazard lights when there is a sudden slowdown in traffic. Anytime I am going highway speeds or greater and then find myself going 25mph slower (and all the way down to full stops) I hit the hazards as early as possible. After 3-4 cars are behind me and also slowed down or stopped I turn them off. I think it's a good practice that helps to get attention. While were at it, when stopped at a left hand turn and waiting for oncoming traffic to clear, I always keep my wheels straight until traffic clears and I am ready to turn. A friend in college was hit from behind with his wheels pre-turned and ended up getting t-boned (totaled and hospitalized).
