Question on GT3 smile vents
I like to install the GT3 smile vents on my 997.2. My car does not have the 3rd radiator, so the air vent is purely for cosmetic purpose.
My question is for those that installed the air vents, do you also install the mesh grill ? Will it look awkward without the grill ? How likely would debris
and trash find its way through the air vents. Thanks for some input..

I will be installing that vent for cosmetic reasons as well. I plan to include the grill because there will be no center grill ducting, and you would just see into the bimper. Adding the grill also just for cosmetics.

Yes, use the mesh grill. Not only does it look better but there will be stuff (leaves, etc) that can find their way through and if you also have the screen kit on the front bumper openings, with the under trays it's tough to get that stuff out once it gets in there. When I added the vent to my wife's Vorsteiner bumper, I used the screen.

What's the general consensus here on this mod? It's cutting up a perfectly good bumper and does nothing cept look kinda cool. I'm on the fence about doing it but really really want to. I just like reversible mods and this certainly isn't one of them. I like the contrast against a white car (which mine is).
I think you can basically get a template loaned to you and so it's a sub $150 mod with bits a pieces.

My 997.2 is white and although its the easiest color to maintain, but it looks kind of blend. Hence I'm pursuing on this mod strictly for cosmetic reasons. I'm not too sure a dark-colored car will benefit as much for this mod. Yes, its non-reversible. A good-intention Rennlist member here send me a template and that saves some money.

I can't speak to the general consensus but..
Strictly for looks mods are about like painting your toenails. No real purpose besides vanity. If I'm doing mods to my car it's going to have a functional purpose. But not everyone has a 911 for the same reasons, and plenty just have them for looks in the first place. To each his own.
Probably unpopular opinion (dont care).. modding a regular 911 with stuff from the GTx cars is kinda lame in my view. I'm also not going to cut vents into the side of the car for a "turbo look". If it makes a functional difference that's different.

And that's why I'm on the fence. Although I do have gt3 seats, steering wheel, shifter, color matched painted console, exhaust, plenum etc but all of that stuff is at least functional. Just have a bug to mod something else now.

make it your car. I don’t care about “cutting up a perfectly good bumper”......if i hate it i will have to find the funds to replace it. I don’t want my car to look like every dentist out there, i want it to look like “my car”

On a .1 car I think it's fine.. on a .2 car I don't. The .2 gt3 or other with the smile vent is molded into the bumper.
It's not a period correct mod on a .2 car.

Your comment has no input on my question at all and yet impose your dislike about mods that has nothing to do with function. Normally I don't react to trolls but in this case you are all wet.
To start, "form" and "function" go together. My car is now functionally perfect (knock on wood) and to-date, it is better than when I first bought it. Things that I could do to improve its function, I took care of it. Here is a list of what has been done to my car so far functionally....Installed sports mode that remapped the throttle response, the clutch and slave cylinder has been replaced, transmission oil was changed, radiator flushed and replaced with fresh coolant, brakes pads and rotors were replaced, brake fluid drained and replaced, spark plugs and coils were replaced, RSS engine mount replacing the stock version, engine and cabin filter replaced, oil and filter changed and replaced every 5K miles, windshield washer reservoir replace due to leakage. Yes, there will be other functional work to be done on the car such as replacing the transmission mount and replacing shocks and springs with coil-overs. So far I'm quite happy with the car and I seriously doubt that your claim to functional work is on par with what I've done so far. Yes the list was extensive and apart from the clutch job and the sports mode installation which was done by Fremont Porsche, I did the rest of the work myself. You don't know me and yet impose your thoughts as if people doing all the non-functional mods are clueless.
As I said form and function go together and it is the form factor that needs work. Not everything coming out of Stuttgart gets a thumbs up. As brilliant as the engineers/designers that gave us the 911 they do have screw-ups every now and then. The form factor that people rejected outright is the 996 fried egg headlights. Now why do you think that people reject a factor that has nothing to do with function or performance at all. There are form factors that I am fully capable of improving, obviously stupid on your assumption that its like painting finger nails.
As I said, the front end of my car is a little blend and I tend to improve it with the vents to enhance a bit of contrast with a white car.The other area is the rear bumperettes which has to go as soon as I figure out how-to.
