997 owners - does this 991 make me look fat?

I agree with many of you that the 997 looks better than the 991. I also think the 993 looks better than the 997. However, I think the angle of some of those pictures exaggerate the size differences.
As Z3mcoupe pics show, its not that big of a difference. The 991 is bigger, yes, but not drastically.
Remember, your 997s are like 'big-fat-ugly, high-rear-bumper, monster trucks' compared to earlier 911s.
The 997 is looking BIG
OMG, look how big the 997 bumper looks...

Well who doesn't love a 993? But for basically half the money across the board and the ability to sit in traffic without overheating, the 997 isn't so bad!
I do agree people are being a bit tough on the 991, these are all great cars, I would still own one. I think the bumper sizes have a lot to do with safety regulations anyway. On its own it doesn't look bad, just appears a lot bulkier next to the older cars.

Yeah, I mean, I'd bet that 100% of people in this thread recognize that the 997 is a fat boat compared to the 993/964/911, but that doesn't mean the 991 isn't yet another step away from the classic tidy proportions. There's certainly a point where it just becomes a bit too much, whether it's with the 996, 991, or whatever the 2025 all-electric model is called.

NUTS. Nobody likes the look of the 996 over the 993. The 996 C4S is a decent looking car from the rear but that's about all I'm going to say nice about the 996 looks.

997.2 Targa 4
Hello Hiapt,
"See this photo I took checking out a used 997 at a dealer. On paper the 991 seems ever so slightly larger, but side by side the 997 looks so much smaller, I think in a good way. The biggest difference is how crazy high the rear bumper comes on the 991 once you know to look at it."
I was seriously, read that very seriously, looking at a 2015 991.1 Targa 4S versus my 2012 997.2 Targa 4. The technology and additional hp was the attraction. Until I put them side by side. The rearend of the 991.1 looked huge. Oddly huge. It literally turned me off. I loved the way the 991.1 drove. I liked the tech stuff. The TDK versus my manual was an attraction. But, then, I like to shift gears. So, that, the smaller car with more personality, and the rear end was enough for me to take a pass on the '15. It was agonizing at first, then got easier. Good luck.

I do like the 996 more than the 993. The front by the headlights on the 993 is ugly. The front quarter between the headlights and hood is just odd. They fixed it with the 996 headlight so it looks good.

The newer cars are no problem to maintain as long as they are under warranty.
However, these cars are much, much harder to service than their predecessors and will have their own little issues. For example, how many times can you remove and replace the rear bumper before fasteners and hardware begin to wear and things don't go on as well or at all?
Take a trip to the dealer's service bay and see for yourself how Porsche assembles these cars.

For me, coming from a 993 to the 996 wasn't about improved looks. But once behind the wheel, the suspension and drive train of the 996 GT3 makes looks a totally mute point.

Chello . . . The 993 is perhaps the best looking of all modern 911s. Some may argue the long noses, but I think the 94 3.6 Turbo and the 993tt is the best looking 911s ever.
