I wonder if polished lip is possible in my case. There is some curb rash - the reason I'm going to have them refinished. The usual process is to smooth down the rash and fill the rash with body filler (ie, bondo) and paint.

I'd suppose that to polish the lip, it would have to be in good shape.

Also, you guys with black wheels, how are you dealing with nicks and what not over time? Silver paint and aluminum are pretty close, so it doesn't show. I think black would tend to show every little nick.

For a non-permanent solution there are products called wheel bands that go over the lip before the tire is mounted and the and the tire holds it in place once mounted. Maybe there's a silver or metallic version of them. That would let you finish the wheel in all black to fix the curb damage and add the band to achieve a similar look.

Not a polished (metal) lip, painted. I scraped mine once, easily redone.

My car has 65k miles, and wheels have very few nicks, which are only noticeable on very close inspection.

I've got lobster claws with the polished/machined lip - and want something that contrasts more with the body color.

I bought a set of Turbo look wheels off Craigslist from someone local. They need to be refinished before I mount them as there are a few blemishes and chips here and there.

My 05 came with black 19" wheels which I put snows on and used this winter. Picked up a set of Vossen 19" during the last Cyber Monday sale. Went with their brushed titanium color. I don't mind the black on black but I think I like the titanium color a bit more.

I agree with “go with what makes you happy”.

Silver, black, titanium, gold, as long as the wheel looks good, the match will look good...

That's also why I put red centerlock nuts on mine.

Black wheels on a black car, done right will look incredible. I just picked up my set of 20 inch Champions from refinishing. Got gloss black lips and satin black centers. In person, they are jaw dropping.

More pics in my FOR SALE thread, if anyone is interested (20 inch Champion Forged wheels)
