997 Muffler Bypass
Hi All,
I just purchased a 2006 997.1 Carrera S yesterday with a full LN rebuilt engine. I also own a 996 that I blew up and therefor threw in an LS1 and Widebody for SEMA 2017 but thats for a different day.
The 997 currently has a fabspeed 200cell x-pipe and OE mufflers. I am not a huge fan of the gundo-hack sound so am looking for muffler bypass pipes but can't for the life of my justify spending $500 for two little J pipes. Use to seeing replica's for the 996 at $100.
Is there anyone that offers muffler bypass' for less than $200 from MaxSpeed/NPH?
Here's a picture of the new purchase

The .2 cars have 3x mufflers. The headers feed into the cats (A), then into a common central muffler (B), and then out to two large mufflers, one on each side (C):
When people install a bypass, it's to replace that central muffler (B). But the two side mufflers (C) remain in use.
But .1 cars don't have that central muffler.
What part of the exhaust would you be bypassing in your car?
Karl.

All they are is 2 pieces of pipe that are about 12" and bent to about 80゚. Fabs speed was absolutely ripping people off with those things. Any halfway competent exhaust shop should be able to make them for you for about 50 bucks
For what it's worth I had a set made up and they sound absolutely 100% terrible. I mean really really really terrible

You could even just throw some generic turn down pipes on there for about 10 bucks but it wouldn't look as nice

They bypass the two side mufflers. They're literally just too little pipes that you would clamp on that run from the Cat pipes to The openings in the valance about 12" away.

I found PSE type mufflers (I had 996.2 with XLF sports mufflers, similar exhaust setup between the M96 and M97) sounded good with a cat-bypass-X-pipe. Quite a bit louder, Almost too loud... butnot quite :P
It sounded much better than my 997.2 with Sharkwerks bypass, Fister, and race headers. That was horridly loud, but not in a pleasant way.

.1 Fabspeed setup looks like this, but the configuration is the same as stock, the cat setup is just different with crossover cats instead of X-cats. I would think that completely bypassing the mufflers would be ridiculously loud and make the car unusable. If you want more sound go for a good aftermarket muffler setup and some 200 cell X-cats. My car screams at high RPM but is still usable for trips without stepping out with a headache.

The original poster is talking about the fab speed muffler bypass pipes which look like this
they are shamelessly priced at $500 and cost about 20 bucks to do.
and yeah they sound horrible

For reference though I am a person that likes a loud exhaust. Here is an old car of mine
