RUF Steering wheel
Hey there!
This might have been covered some place else but I couldn't really find the information I am looking for so here we go...
I recently got hold of a 2006 997S2 which came with the triangular multifunction steering wheel.
I would like to replace it for an alcantara steering wheel of good quality.
I like the circular steering better than the triangular and do not mind losing the multi-function, (I just don't use it and I prefer to have fewer buttons around me).
The Porsche OEM GT3 RS steering wheel + airbag would be a great option, albeit a tad pricey.
A cheaper alternative would be the RUF steering wheel + airbag.
Has anyone tried the RUF steering wheel?
What were your thoughts on the wheel?
Were there any tricks required during the installation?
It the diameter of the RUF wheel smaller than that of the OEM steering wheel / Would it obfuscate the dials on the dash?
Can you think of another good option to replace an OEM multi-function steering wheel in a 997.1 with an alcantara steering wheel?
Thanks!
Raphael

I will be selling my GT2RS wheel soon. The silver center has been swapped for black. Also have the black air bag. On the 2006 you would also need the control module and an ECU update to make the swap. If you are interested, shoot me a msg and we can work something out.

RUF wheels are thick, beautiful, and awesome. I almost went that way myself, but didn't want to lose the multifunction buttons so did a carbon one from DCT instead. I prefer the triangular airbag wheel to all the exposed plastic spokes of the round airbag versions.

Thanks @halo777,
I would be interested in something like this but the red alcantara is too flashy for me.
Out of curiosity, why were the control module and an ECU update needed?

I believe the old sports wheel with a 997 part number is no longer available but the same wheel now has a 991 part number
Do a search on 911UK forum ...lots of useful information on steering wheel updates and good luck

When you install a 997.2 wheel in a 997.1 you will need the control module in almost all cases, and the ECU update. Otherwise your horn wont work and your airbag might not either.
