Default Getting rid of bumperettes

I think the bumperettes on my 997.2 is an eyesore. Thinking of removing it and then using fillers to cover up the holes and than respray it. Good thing my car is white and less demanding to get it right compared with metallic or black cars. Anybody has done the removal of bumperettes. Advice and hints on doing it right is appreciated.

Neither of my cars has them anymore because the aftermarket bumpers on them delete them so they're compatible with wider European license plates. I agree that the look is much cleaner without them.

If you do a search, there have been a couple people that have deleted them from US bumpers. I think one guy put some carbon fiber panels in their place.

I've had to repaint mine a couple times due to others touching them with their bumpers while parallel parking. I just removed them and took them to the body shop, picked them up when they were done. Lots cheaper than respraying the bumper, and no down-time or need to pay for a rental. Of course, I don't mind the look of them. Definitely nicer than the black rubberish ones on the 996.

Well, you'll need to cut off the actual bumper arms that the bumperettes cover.
The black parts here:

Or you'll need to source and install a euro bumper.
Both are doable.

The aluminum brackets that hold the black material are just riveted to the bumper. You don't have to cut the brackets off, you can just drill out the rivets. That's what I did on both of mine as part of the Euro bumper conversions.

Yes, sorry should have said drill. You can rivet them back if you ever want to go back to stock too.

Looks great. That horizontal reflector came with your 4S or did you changed the engine lid to fit it ? That horizontal red line sure makes the car look more aggressive and wider.

Anyone have a pic of the bumper with the bumperettes removed and not filled yet? Trying to get a visual of the work that needs done.

Go all the way down to the first post in this thread (https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...p-by-step.html) and you can see what they look like from the inside of the bumper. Also a very good rear bumper removal DIY as well, and the one I used a few years ago when fitting the RUF rear bumper to my car and the Vorsteiner to my wife's.

Thats an 09+ car. Factory for a 4S. I kinda of like the look actually, but switched to a TT tail on my 997.1 4S so not an option.
