Default Crack on OBDII port

In doing a service reset on my 997.2 using a Durametric today, I found out that there is a crack on the OBDII port under the dash. My concern is that down the road for service for either smog test or any tech using that OBDII port might cause it to break and worst yet, the pins to break off from the plastic body. I don't know why these ODBII ports are so flimsy. It happened to my BMW as well. It seems to me that just about every kind of service need data access from these ports and yet they are so flimsy and when they break you are out of luck trying to do any diagnostics until you fix the port.
I'm thinking of replacing the port before these mishaps happen. Have anybody done that in the past ? Is there a map to re-pin the connections to the appropriate hole within the port ? Any help is appreciated.
