Default 997 NB wheel size question

Hello,

This my first Porsche and my first time posting on Rennlist. I just bought a 2005 997 NB with factory 18" wheels. I want to stay with factory Porsche wheels. What recommendations do you have for me? I really want 19's and as wide in the rear as possible.

Thank you

I believe the widest factory wheels were 8.5x19 front 54mm offset and 11.5X19 67mm offset for the back. I also believe there were only two wheel styles in that size the sport classic which is a modern interpretation of the Fuch of old and the Carrera Sport

Get the wheels from a WB, add 12-15mm spacers on the front and they will be flush with the fenders.

Here's your best source for factory Porsche wheels: http://www.wheelenhancement.com/products/brands/porsche

With your specifications it may be easier to call them rather than sorting through all their offerings online. Pretty sure they can give you a quick answer as to what your best options are.

Buy a set of 997 GT3 wheels. The GT3 is a NB car and the stance, widths, and offsets are almost perfect, without needing any spacers. They are Front - 19" x 8.5" with 53mm offset and you'd run a 235/35-19 tire & Rear - 19" x 12" with 68mm offset and you'd run a 305/30-19 tire. That extra 1/2" in the rear vs all of the other OEM wheels makes a big difference in appearance, and further flattens the contact patch of the tire for possibly more grip, not that you can feel that difference. I think an offset of 50 on the front is the ideal #, so you could buy a 3mm spacer for the front if so inclined, but for that little, probably isn't necessary or worth it.

We have the GT3 wheels on my wife's C2S that looks like this. Wheel Enhancement is another good source for OEM Porsche wheels.

and here's what an et50 front offset looks like, which is what I spec'd for the custom Forgelines on my silver car.

Post up some pics with what you decided to do.

agreed, just make sure the fronts are 8 inch and rears are 11.

the numbers will vary slightly if you end up with an oem 8.5/11.5 inch wheel.

Those rears should work. What I think is the ideal front setup is a 19x8.5 et 50 with 235/35-19 tire. Go to www.willtheyfit.com and enter these parameters and the 9" wide setup you're considering and it will compare them for you. If they'll only be further out by a few mm then they'll work - if closer to 8 mm, then my opinion is you'll have too much poke, but others run a setup like this - I just don't like it.

Here's 8.5 et50

Here's 8.5 et42 which would be 8mm further out

If you plan on lowering the 997 a bit to eliminate the 4X4/off-road/rally car wheel gap look, you can and may want to go a little more aggressive on the off sets with an increase in negative camber. A light drop in the car even makes the 18s more aesthetically palatable and works more wonders than increasing rim size for looks. I think et 47/48 on 8.5 front with a very light drop is about perfect.

Default Will they fit

I checked the website and it looks like they will be a little big. I may sacrifice the drivability and handling for astetics.

If someone in the Baltimore area has some 19" c4s c2s wheels let me know.

Default 18x8.5 et48. 18x11 et52.

I think this is what I am going with. Do you think it will fit well?

Forgestar F14
18x8.5 et48
18x11 et52

Thank you

IMO too much rear poke, but different people have different tastes.

Comparing that wheel to the custom Forgelines that are on my car - 19 x 12 et 74 is as follows

Compared to your existing wheel, this new wheel will have an inner rim which is 34.7mm further away from the suspension strut. The outer rim will poke out 9.3mm more than before.

This is how the rears sit on my car so the question is whether you want 9.3 mm further out from this.

I previously had a 19 x 11 et 52 on the car and it sat like this

Which I didn't like at all, so I sold them.

On the fronts, with an 8.5" wide wheel, I believe an et of 50 is the perfect #. 2mm further out probably won't matter too much, but my fronts with an et 50 sit like this
