Default Magnetic drain plug for manual transmission - 997.2

I have a 2009 C2S (997.2) and it is a 6 speed manual. Last time I did a transmission oil change I found out that the drain plug is not magnetic. I searched everywhere and can't find a magnetic drain plug for the g97/05 transmission. Anybody on this forum found a suitable magnetic drain plug for the 997.2 ?

I'm guessing there might not be such a thing since it is supposed to be a lifetime fill.

There is an inaccessible magnet in the transmission. However, I added a magnetic drain plug. It's exactly the same size as the oil drain and aluminum gasket. Use Mobilube PTX every 30,000 miles. Sunset Porsche has the best prices. About 3 liters for a change.

Ebay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Porsche-911...item238f5e2373

One for the oil and one for the transmission drain. Strong magnet.

Rennpart.com sells PTX. I paid $100 for 3 liters shipped. LN Engineering has a magnetic oil drain plug.

On my .1, the same magnetic plug for the oil pan fits the bottom hole of the transmission. I'm using the ones from LN Engineering.

It does on mine, since I installed both together. I think every drain plug needs some form of crush/sealing washer whether it's the plastic/rubber encapsulated type or an aluminum or copper one. No problems with either of my cars that have the aluminum one installed.

Damn, son! When you niggle up a fastener, you don't mess around!

Top Tip: when working with hex heads, give the socket a little tap to make sure it's seated. Clean it out, too. Gunk gets in there and prevents the head from seating well.

Thanks. I just checked Pelican and the 2 washers have different part numbers and big price differential. The engine oil drain washer is 1.5mm thick at $2 and the transmission drain washer is 2mm at $18. Not sure how critical [or not] that 0.5mm thickness difference is.

A little pricey but it does eliminate the hex bit issue.

I would be very careful about using a hardened steel drain plug in an aluminum case. Not only do you increase the chances of stripping the case threads (expensive) instead of the plug threads (cheap), but you have dissimilar metals in contact with each other. Best scenario is an aluminum plug with the magnet bonded into it, but the bonding agent has to be extremely heat and oil resistant as having the magnet come loose from the plug then attract to ferrous items inside the engine or transmission would be bat news. The steel drain plug makes it almost impossible for the magnet to come loose, but you have the risk of thread stripping and metals reacting instead.

I recently bought both from AutohausAZ. Oil drain washer 90012310630 is $0.26. Transmission drain/fill plug washers (same for both) 99730180800 are $0.36 each. Pelican Parts is a great resource (books and tips) but IMO their parts prices are considerably higher. ECS Tuning, FCP Euro and AutohausAZ are my standard go-tos. Being new to Porsche and this forum I've seen lots of references to Suncoast, so will check them as well.
