I know switching from the stock orange side marker to clear is pretty standard. has anyone seen a blacked out one? i think this would look better on a white car. im having trouble finding any for a 997.2. Ive seen some "smoked" side markers but not for the 997.
When my headlights were refinished as part of a sandstorm induced front end spray the body shop used black diluted about 15 to 1 with clear so that there would be some UV protection. They did the side lights and DRLs as well.
since they are useless i just painted mines to match the car..
Mostly, I agree with you, but if you recode them to act as turn signals and not just lights, they're actually useful on a multi lane highway to the person one lane over so they know you're switching lanes sideways in their direction. Helps prevent the situation where you're both trying to move into the same lane at the same time.

I picked these up a couple of weeks ago when one of my clears cracked and fogged up....stone or something. I coded them as turn signals....Indy did it in 5 minutes.
You need something that is capable of coding the modules in the car, like Durametric Pro or PIWIS. Then on one of the modules under coding theres a selection for "side markers as indicators" or something like that. You change it to yes, write the change to the module, and walla, side markers blink with the front turn signals.
