Using a car cover when parked in the garage?
I've heard two different theories on this.
Yes - Keeps the dust off and helps protect it from getting scratched or dinged while in the garage.
No - Scratches the paint from repeated on/off and you can get dirt or tire grime from the wheel area on your car after a while.
Currently, I have one on the car I recently purchased.
Which do you do? And, maybe I'm missing something for either one? RJ

Only cover a clean car, with a clean cover.
It's not clear what you're trying to accomplish.

SoCal RJ,
Cover mine only following a complete wash and dry.
Use the factory cover, which is also completely clean.
Personally would never put the cover on car after a drive.
Would consider that cover contaminated and purchase new.
Mine is A1 black which is notoriously soft paint so needs extra precaution.
“Yes” option is my selection/opinion.

I have the OE cover, nice and soft. But only goes on for the winter if the car was just cleaned. Skipping it this winter as my car is quite dusty and too cold to wash it properly.

I would skip it unless your spot is ground level with an open fenced area blowing on it. Even then I wouldn’t do it personally due to the time and possibility of scratches. Plus it’s a beautiful car to look at.
However I’m imagining something in a high rise with no real fresh air access. I personally don’t cover mine and it’s inside at 65-70 degeees in a high rise. Never had any problems.

Some parking garages in the city have lime/calcium drips that leave marks on the car. I had this happen to my Benz, and it took a wet sanding/detailing to get it off. Fortunately the garage covered the costs.
How bad are the scratches to the paint from placing a car cover on the vehicle?

I cover my car all the time - always in the garage and when parked outside for more than a few minutes. I always make sure it is clean and that I lightly dust it off before covering. I've never had a problem with scratches following these steps.

I leave my Ferrari uncovered in the garage. I figure I can pressure wash off the dust and use a leaf blower after. The theory being, the less things that touch the paint the better.

I used my cover once or twice but always found myself finding a reason to take it off. Need to do winter maintenance.. wow it's nice out, time to drive.. I can't find something, it must be in the Porsche.. let's sit in it and look around. Dashboard must be dusty after these few weeks, let's clean inside.
Unless I can find a way to restrain myself from lifting her skirt all the time, no cover for me.

I use the OEM indoor cover with my 2008 during the winter months. If the weather is good and the temp is high enough, I will start it up and go for a drive during those months. After driving, I use a "California Duster" , plug the car in and put the cover back on until the next drive. During the warm weather months, no cover. The weather has been great here in NJ lately.
